Dartmoor Dumpling's first paragraph fits me absolutely. 'Flu, family junketings, joyfully sinking my teeth into everything from Serrano ham to Costco's chocolate offerings, and close to my side, a Christmas present from a friend of home made damson and raspberry gin which is absolutely sumptuous. Unfortunately I don't lose my appetite when I'm ill. The eating was good while it lasted. Now, I'm cooking in advance and freezing calorie counted portions of stewed steak, cooked mince, and chicken in various disguises. Use passata instead of just tinned tomatoes it is much better. Concentrate on flavour and taste, use as much fresh stuff as possible, start a little herb garden even if only in pots I think a new project would be a spur for us all. I bought a pot of sage recently, it is lovely in pork meat balls in gravy, add a bit of plain yoghurt to the sauce it makes it richer. Good eating to us all, and don't get hungry.

Many thanks, I just wish I could tack a 3 stone loss behind my name like you. Perhaps that had better be my aim for this year. Have just had my main meal of the day, cottage pie, green beans, chopped raw pepper, a couple of mini tomatoes, followed by seeds from half a pomegranate topped with Greek yoghurt. I usually finish that off with a tsp of honey but in the interests of pull yourself togetherness I refrained. It's cold and raining here ( Berks ) poor sheep standing looking morose in the field behind me.
I often get hungrier when I'm ill, but this time I had a sore throat that made eating and drinking really painful. I think it's my version of wiring my jaw shut!!!
Better go and get out the pliers then !
