Hi, I started my calorie counting today. I am worried I might not lose weight as I have a knee injury and can't get out walking (which is part of the reason I have gained weight). Will the diet still work? Or will I have to cut back even further on the calories?

Hi Dizie,
Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum. As the NHS BMI calculator lets you input the amount of exercise you currently are able to do, i.e. your activity levels currently, it will be able to provide you with a range of recommended calories, which if you eat within that number, will ensure that you do lose weight - so I would check that out first, to make sure you're eating within the range recommended:
nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw...
It should work, as it is designed for various activity levels, and takes your personal stats into consideration in coming up with the recommended range.
I would also recommend having a look at the Welcome Newbie post, which moreless has put together - it is a really good read, and very inspiring. It's in the Pinned posts area, which is in the top right-hand-side of the homepage.
Also, within the NHS Choices website, there are various pages of exercise suggestions that you could try, which don't involve the knees - i.e. you could focus on upper body for example.
We have a Monday group weigh-in session, which is going on today - so do check that out too, if you would like to participate in a group weigh-in. You can see the latest thread in the Events section (below the Pinned posts).
Finally if you like recipes and meal ideas, then click on 'view more' in the Pinned posts and see our Recipe Collation post - it's got lots of ideas there.
Wishing you a great week and success with your weight loss goals.

HI Dizie and welcome. i do not think you should have to cut back more on calories, but have you tried maybe swimming? it is good for knees and no impact on your knees. Just a thought. i do it as i have bad knees and ankles myself and i love it.
