Hi there, I too am losing slowly and feel frustrated about the slow rate. However, I'm learning stick at things, and at the same time, my losing and maitaining. Its the first time I have acheived this and I beleive this is what I need to imbed into my behaviour towards food and weight. Best wishes xx

Hi Sunny-day  , thanks for your reply, I am actually maintaining very well this time, it's just when I've tried really hard all week and expect to have lost a couple of pounds and my weights " the same " aaargh! It's so frustrating! Best wishes to u too! X

Same here!

I've been stuck for abt 6 weeks now. I know I'm thinner though due to belts. Maybe you're toning up, it's not all about the scale. (Though I too really want to see those numbers shift!)  I am trying to move more, do some different exercise and also food. I think that may have started some movement again.  Good luck!

Hi Frankie53, thanks for your reply, I haven't lost much weight for a few weeks! But I am slimmer! My clothes are much looser and people are noticing! But I want to see the numbers going down! Guess I'll have to be patient, good luck to u too :)

Ive been assured  by all the professionals that it is completely normal to have cycles of plateau weeks followed by more weight loss if u stick at it. They say it's actually very unusual to have continual weight loss, unless you're eating too little and exercising too much. During plateau weeks it's as though the body twigs you're losing weight and tries to hold on to maintain but if you ignore the scales and continue doing what you're doing then the weight will start to drop again. So I guess the answer to the question for healthy long term weight loss is to not change a thing. Have faith in your body, you'll get there.

Hi Hidden  , thanks for replying, I have had these little plateaus before, but never for this long! I struggled a bit over my birthday but got back into it fairly quickly. But I feel I'm doing something wrong or maybe my body has just got used to this amount of food!!! Yikes if I've to cut down more I'll be really hungry!! Maybe I'll try more exercise and see if that helps! Thank you anyway x

in reply toJesterpuss1

Oh, sorry - unnecessary advice then. Hope the exercise increase helps and u don't go hungry. Fingers crossed for you.

No advice is unnecessary Hidden , your reply really made me think! Sometimes you just need a bit of encouragement, and you get this on the forum! It's great! Thanks 😘

I get these moments too, I think I'm going to settle being a maintainer!

After a not too fab week, I've lost, weird, er no, I'm just relaxed and 'pigged out' a bit, helps my hormones are 'calm' ( after a few dramatic weeks).

Try to be kind to yourself, accept your body serves you well, sometimes the odd pig out day, does more than being over good, plateaus ah those things

Jesterpuss1 in reply toDiana

Hi Diana , I also think sometime relaxing a little can kick start your weight loss! It's just remembering " not" to get too relaxed for too long! Sounds like you're feeling ok! I'm glad! Oh to be a maintainer too *sigh* :)

It sure beats being a gainer, I've had a few sod it days, well 2, prob more distracted than before, I'm always mindful and crave less.

On another note found free from waitrose love life cake squares ( ok tiny), at 157, they are yummy too.free from suits me better too

Jesterpuss1 profile image
Jesterpuss1 in reply toDiana

I think we wouldn't be human without a "sod it" day now and then!

I'll look out for the cakes, I'm better with free from too, I've quite s few food intolerances! :(

Waitrose do a great range too, and they taste ok, as long as you can ration stuff!

Hang on in there. It will get better!  It sounds like you are doing everything right so you need to treat it as a long term investment and relax a little.  Focus on health and wellbeing rather than weight.   X

Thanks Seuzan  , i seem to be getting a bit paranoid about the scales! I hate them! I dread Monday weigh in now because I get even more downhearted when im not losing like everyone else! On the upside I am feeling better and looking better so that's something! :)

Remember It's not all about the numbers. Fantastic that you are feeling and looking better. I am sure you are not the only one not losing on the Monday weigh in if you read all the posts. Next week could be different for you though. Hope you not feeling so down today 😊

I am feeling a little better today thanks, we are going on holiday 5 weeks today so I'm going to focus on that! I'd like to lose another half stone for then! So it's a mini challenge for me! :)

Good to have a challenge to focus on. Sure you will lose half a stone in 5 weeks. Fingers crossed for you and have a great holiday :)

Thanks muffintop67 , I'll give it my best shot! 5 weeks should give me enough time, and I'm going clothes shopping for my hol soon so that'll keep me on track! :)

I quite expect to put on weight this week too as it is the 'wrong time of the month' for me to lose anything. Hormones, pah! So I will probably be joining you on reporting an increase! I only look at the scales once a week so that it doesn't depress me so often. I was thinking you should focus on planning a delicious, healthy diet for next week (maybe making some changes to the stuff you normally eat) to diversify & make it fun and interesting. I made the bran cake recipe that was posted on this site the other day and it was really filling and delicious - only 100 cals a slice and really easy to make so worth a go! Have a lovely weekend!!!

Jesterpuss1 profile image
Jesterpuss1 in reply toSeuzan

Yeah! I think I will make some changes to meals next week! I'm doing " the big shop later " so I'll do some planning before I go! And make a list!! I wish I could say its the wrong time of the month for me! 😁 but I had an early menopause at 45! So that's well behind me! Thanks for your advice Seuzan  and I hope you have a lovely weekend too! 😊😇😁

Try happy scale, a daily weigh in gives a truer pic

Oh dear. I feel your frustration. I have had this same problem at least 6 times and it just seems so unfair, particularly when you are being so good.

I was advised to spread my weekly calorie intake unevenly across the week by eating more calories some days and less on others with no particular pattern. I found that very helpful and it can also  fit your lifestyle (if you are meeting up with friends you can allow yourself a little extra and have less on a convenient day for you).

If you are attending a gym, the staff can be really helpful. I was advised that instead of say using the rowing machine for a certain number of minutes at a reasonable pace to row really fast for a very short period (30 seconds) then slowly for the next 30 seconds and repeat a few times (in my case 3 initially). This pushed up my heart rate which I believe can be very beneficial to weight loss. If your health permits have a go.

Best of luck and don't give up. You can do this :)

Jesterpuss1 in reply toharobed

Thanks for your reply harobed  , someone else suggested eating more calories one day than on others! So I am going to give that a try! I am only exercising at home at the moment ( too shy to join a gym ) but I'll take on-board your advice! Thankyou! :)

harobed   I didn't know that! I do that to prevent boredom, who knew it was good for me too 😊

How frustrating! Try to hang on in there as you never know what may happen next week. One week I lost hardly anything then the next week I lost 3 lbs. Could you up your fat burning exercise a bit to see if that may help? Hope u feel better today and have a nice bank holiday weekend😊

Hi muffintop67  , thanks for your reply! I'm going to try a few of the suggestions off the people who have replied to my rant!! I think I need to shake things up a bit! I'm also going to try some different exercise! So onwards and hopefully downwards! Hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend too :)

Oh sorry. Unnecessary advice then. Hope the increased exercise works and u don't go hungry. Fingers crossed for you.

Nothing to add I'm afraid, just to say I'm thinking of you 😕  I am having a bit of the same myself So decided to plot monthly weight on a chart, I am going down but very slowly 😕 But hey ho, better than the alternative 😊 Best wishes

Thanks Anna, i expected it to get harder as I lost weight but I'm finding it very difficult! I know I'm going to have to reduce my calories more but I'm getting hungry now so if I eat less I'm afraid I'll cave in! I'm glad you're still losing even if it is slow! Always good to see you on the forum! Hope you have a good bank holiday weekend! :)

I am in the same place and very frustrated.  My daughter bought me a pedometer watch (very cheap) and it counts the steps you go all day.  It has given me a push to walk assisted with my walker and it helps a little.  I am also eating a bigger lunch with a salad and everything in it and a snack in between of low sugar Jello with fruit and (fake whipped cream) trying to make up my own food plan of foods I like losing very slowly but it is a start..this is not easy for me and I share your feelings but don't give up  just do it slowly...we are not perfect but we will win this one eventually..

Thanks goodtimes , its good to know other people struggle at times too! I use a steps app on my phone and I'm amazed how far I walk in a day! I struggle a bit through having an old injury to my ankle and if I walk too far one day - I'm in pain all night and really struggle the next day! I've had a lot of suggestions off other members too so I'm taking it all on board and  I'm going to try some new things next week ie food choices and exercise! Good luck with your continued weight loss! 😊

I was you four weeks ago! I was dieting for three weeks, no cheats, but the scales did not move! Then in week four I dropped 7lbs!! I too was beyond miserable thought I was doing something wrong so keep at it, you will lose when your body finally gets the message!

I hope the scales start moving soon 😊 I'm determined to keep at it tho! Thanks for replying 😉

There's a limit to how far you can drop the calories! Better to change what you are eating, as others have suggested.

If you have food intolerances I would recommend that you stay away from "free from" ready-made foods, as the additives and preservatives  can cause problems for sensitive insides.

Hi Penel , I am going to try some different meals this week! I have IBS and I'm allergic to some dairy but not all! I also can't eat any brown bread which I love! So it is difficult! I haven't tried much free from foods, I tend to cook from scratch! But I was gonna give it a go! Maybe not now! Thanks 😊

Penel profile image
Penel in reply toJesterpuss1

Perhaps have  a google of probiotics and prebiotics if you haven't already. They may help with the IBS.
