That is how I feel about my whole eating thing. I am trying so hard but want to eat crap food to feel better, though I have been doing ok and still using My Fitness Pal app...but could be doing so much better. I just feel stuck.

LessToLose4lbsRestart April 2024

Hi Ollio,  have you checked with the BMI checker how many calories a day you are able to consume and lose weight?  I was pleasantly surprised that it was a lot higher than I thought and that has helped a lot with my love of snacking.

You wrote recently about snacking and a thought occurred to me - maybe, rather than having 3 meals a day, you tried 4 or 5 smaller ones?

Morning ollio

Are you getting enough to eat? Or eating the right foods? Don't try to cut back too much. Small steps, slow gradual loss is perfectly fine 😊 With limited calories to play with its important to get a good balance of nutrients. If I don't have enough to eat early in the day I get cravings for rubbish in the afternoon 😕

You can do this! Good luck

Hi sweetie, at present I'm trying to focus on what I really fancy, what will satisfy me and what my body is craving. If it's within my calories then I have it, it's not always the healthiest choice but it's the choice that is keeping me on track and stopping me overeating and binging on crap.

There are days when my choices are extremely healthy and I feel for now it's working well.

My evening meals are usually clean meals but 2 nights this week I had processed foods cos that's what I really wanted. One night was scotch pie and beans and the other was chicken goujons with SKINNI fries. On both these nights I didn't crave a single thing for the rest of the night as I was satisfied.

We are all unique so different strategies work for different folk, it's just a case it finding what works for you

Hi Ollio,

All the ideas above are great and have worked for me at different times.

At the moment I am doing really well by cutting out a lot of my carbs and limiting my portions of fruit.  (I was over the top on both.)  I have increased the dairy and the fats to compensate.  It is working great, no hunger at all.

One of the things I realised during my supermarket shop was that if I wasn't buying trolley loads of Apples, bananas, oranges etc then I could afford the what I usually think of as luxury fruits and am too canny to buy.  So the last two shops I stocked up on fresh blueberries, strawberries and raspberries and my favourite but more expensive yogurt and the planned amounts of some cheeses I normally only eat on holiday.  Lo and behold, I saved money at the till.  The bill was less than usual because no cereals, breads, crackers, or sugar foods.

At the moment you are concentrating on what you can't eat.  Try switching to what you would like to eat but which is within your allowed foods.  One trick that helped me with this was to add an extra veg and an extra fruit to every meal I had.  Breakfast was the challenge for that one!  If you are full to bursting with the right foods, in the right portions, you don't have room for the wrong ones.  And you end up with new treats.  Sugar free jelly turns a plate of boring fruit into a pudding.  And if you add a tbsp of plain yogurt or quark with a little powdered sweetner and vanilla, then you have a dessert!

Let us know what you decide and how you get on.
