I have just had an epiphany. I wont be having dinner for about and hour and a half and I am hungry, but I have realised that an hour and a half is not a long time and I am not going to die of starvation if I wait till then rather than snacking! Think that might be a little breakthrough!!

Epiphany
I have found that oatcakes and a cup of tea do the trick for me , I keep a box handy especially like the different flavours you get. Only 37 calories each.
That is a MASSIVE breakthrough!
Really good to hear 😊 I try to postpone eating too, like to think my tummy rumbles are fat molecules bring destroyed!!! 😊
Simple but genius
Very true! I have been munching on raw carrot before dinner which stops the hunger only problem is it gives me hiccups which in turn is good as I then can't eat anything till the hiccups have gone. Probably should just stick to the waiting as you suggest.
It's the small things isn't it? I find the lead up to dinner awful. My challenge for this week is to not snack at all while cooking. 2 days in and I've not snacked but it has been much harder than it should be :/ It's all in the name of changing habits of a lifetime so it's bound to be hard I guess.
I've just had a fantastic idea while looking at others' strength challenges. I've hung a little chart in the kitchen, and while I cook, my aim is to do some push ups against the counter, and some squats. Each tick means I've done 10. And everytime I go upstairs to the toilet, I aim to do 10 sit-ups.
This should get me going a bit more, and keep idle fingers away from food while cooking 😉
Yes, I remember as a kid, in the olden days, when meals were served at the table and mothers insisted you wait for the next meal and not "spoil your appetite" with nibbles and snacking, we were often "starving" ie ready for the meal when we got to the table. We mostly ate what was put in front of us too. My Mum was really unusual as she allowed us to not eat foods, as long as we had tasted them a couple of times. And once she knew we really didn't like, say, liver or fish, she would serve us an easy alternative, like a fried egg instead of the disliked food. But most parents made you sit there till you'd eaten it, and some put the plate back in front of you at subsequent meals, until you ate it. So it was eat it or starve, because they certainly didn't replace it with anything you would eat. My Mum was so unusual, friends used to pop in at meal times to see if we were telling the truth about a Mum who would be willing to serve 3 slightly different meals to 6 people. Now we're surrounded by food all the time, even when we're away from the kitchen. To get to my nearest bus stop, about 50% of the buildings I pass contain food serving businesses. The kids going to school at 8 am in the morning, have to run the gauntlet of early opening corner shops, supermarkets, bakeries and, even the newsagent, all selling lots that they shouldn't be eating for breakfast. Kids routinely help themselves to sugary drinks and snacks from the fridge and the cupboards at home. And we wonder why our population has obesity issues and rotten teeth. It's not till we try to stop snacking that we realise how pervasive high kcal low nutrient food is in our culture. So well done for sharing your light bulb moment and making us all think twice about rushing for a snack the instant we're slightly hungry or looking for something to do. I found your comment and the other posts really insightful and thought provoking.
Hi Claire2stone , thanks for your appreciation. I must put my soap box away soon! Too much time on my hands tonight.
