Congratulations on your transplant, hope all is going smoothly.

I'd imagine a healthy, balanced diet will be the advice. Can your consultant or specialist nurse advise you re: target calorie intake? Cook from scratch, fresh or frozen veg, give the processed any any pub food a miss. The same advice for all of us really.

Good luck :-)

Thank you , I thought someone had a special diet I could follow 🙂

with my nurses hat on, you'd be better getting dietary advice from the hospital if you are looking for a special diet. Another patient's diet might not be suitable for you.

Were you not discharged with advice?

Hi Bob,

I agree with Fussybird that you'd be best to check with your healthcare provider to see what follow-up they advise, but you might also find this NHS link page useful too:

nhs.uk/conditions/liver-tra...

There is a brief mention of diet there on that page as well, which is a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which many of us follow here, so you're in a good place to have some support, if you decide to follow this - but do seek specialist advice from your own GP.

Wishing you a good recovery and hope you have a good weekend.

Lowcal :-)

My aunt had a liver transplant, and she generally focusses on lower calorie and low fat (and fat should be from healthy sources like olive oil). Your real issue will be a lack of mobility, but you just need to work on it. It is hard to lose weight post-transplant.

I believe my aunt did try a fad diet after her op, but it wasn't hugely effective, and it's a lot of strain on the liver when you regain. Any diet needs to be agreed with your consultant, and needs to focus on lifestyle change rather than quick results.
