Thanks, I read it, it didn't tell me anything I didn't know already, through reading books such as Salt, Sugar, Fat by Michael Moss, Fat Chance by Dr Robert Lustig, and The Starch Solution by Dr John McDougall.

All of which have opened my eyes to what the food industry is doing and how it is damaging the health of its customers (and especially our children).

What I find odd is basically as a society we have known this for over 50 years. My parents never gave us processed foods because of the salt and sugar content.

Also agree, but it's still not common knowledge even among health workers. Fat is still public enemy no. 1 and not sugar, even on this NHS web-site. Every "balanced" meal has about 50% starchy carbs (and we know starch is pretty much just sugar).

Ah, the infamous "Eatwell plate".

Oh, boy, the number of discussions I've had with NHS dieticians about this! The last one was with a young lady straight out of training a couple of years ago. All she knew about was the official line, and couldn't engage in discussion on any other front. She wouldn't even admit to having heard of Atkins, the Paleo diet, or the Newcastle University research on reversing diabetes!

It must be quite difficult for dieticians, the most recent research is literally turning their evidence base upside down, but they're not helping anyone by digging their heels in and doggedly trotting out the same old advice.

My dietician is strictly " you count the calories". But I don't think anyone an seriously say a calories worth of veg. Is the same as a calorie worth of sugar. That takes no account of nutrition and fibre needs.

I looked on another link after this and found this little motto which about sums it up " eat well - not too much. .Mainly plants"

Isn't that what healthy eating is all about ? I think that I eat healthily now, and even tho I feel like a right saddo saying it - when I've eaten a good meal, with lots of veg, I don't feel the need to pick during the evening.

I spent years eating out of cardboard boxes from the microwave, just because they said " ONLY 250 CALORIES" - I don't do it now, and I'm losing weight. Interesting article 😊!
