Nice comment from old work colleague

Evening all, I thought I'd share a moment I had today with an old friend, who I met at a get together this morning. I haven't seen her for a couple of years, we were with other old friends. Finally as we were leaving she asked one of the others about my weight loss, who reassured her that I was OK and had been doing a planned weight loss for a long time.

When I told her I had so far lost just under 9st, we were both a bit shocked to realise I had lost more then she weighs. To think I was walking around before with the equal to carrying her round on me for years!! Sometimes it takes something like this to realise how far we have come.

Best wishes to you all for your journey to healthy lives.

Wow!! That really is quite something! I'm not surprised you were both a bit taken aback! It's amazing isn't it, just to think about how we see weight differently when measuring people than measuring other things. Imagine being given a 9 stone rucksack to carry. I bet you couldn't even pick it up - I know I couldn't. And what a lovely position to be in, to have done such an amazing job (9 stone?! I'm reeling) and be able to see physically how all that determination has paid off.

Thank you so much for your comments Garfield_123. I have a picture in my head of me looking a bit like a tortoise on its back with its legs sticking up. Instead it would be me upended on my back with this 9st rucksack under me, and my legs and arms flailing around. Haha πŸ’πŸ˜†

9 stone - that's amazing! Just think of all that "you" that your heart doesn't need to supply with blood, that your knees don't have to carry, that your lungs don't need to provide with oxygen. I couldn't lift 9 stone and you were doing it every minute of every day! That is pretty awesome! Will now have to go back through your posts to see how you did it!

Thanks JaySeeSkinny, it doesn't bear thinking about what carrying all that excess weight was doing to my body.

Hi Ros, you've done amazingly well! I've been reading some of your earlier posts and I take my hat off to you! Losing any amount of weight is never easy but you've accomplished so..... much! I'm really pleased for you and will take my inspiration from you and keep going!!!! I haven't told many people that I'm trying to lose weight and I keep waiting for someone, ha ha anyone to notice!! But I do feel better in myself and i can tell so that's enough for me for now! Good luck and best wishes, :)

It's horrible when people don't notice! I kept quiet as well and it took about 12 kgs before people really noticed. Although some were more observant! The worst was when a really good friend, who sees me pretty much every day, walked up to my husband and said "hey, you're looking really good. Have you lost weight". I felt like shouting "no, he hasn't. I HAVE". But at some stage it's pretty obvious!

Oh that's really bad! I keep waiting for my sister to notice but - not yet!! Maybe when I've lost a bit more 😁

Hi Ros

Fantastic result and a really inspirational postπŸ˜ƒ

When we are on this journey I think we sometimes 'forget' how we were before and how we are now, and it takes someone to bring it home, hopefully always in a positive way.

It's strange how most people's thoughts jump to serious illness for marked wgt loss and not down to self determination and effort !

Have a fab weekend

Thank you Flossie for your comments. I agree with you we do often forget how far we have come when we are in the middle of our journeys.

I have been very luck with the reactions I have received from family and friends and as I still have another couple of stones I need to lose I have not yet had anyone suggest I should stop.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Ros,

Wow!!!! That is so inspiring! Really amazing.

Congratulations for losing just under 9 stones. Like you say, you lost more than your friend's entire weight - that is phenomenal.

Many Congratulations.

Wishing you a great weekend. It's nearly here.

congratulations, I have just been in garden filling my bottles with the weight I have lost in water there are 8, 4 pint bottles and they are so heavy its a wonder my heart hasn't packed up years ago so 9 st is so amazing well done you must keep going and just realise this is how it has to be. I went into flower shop yesterday which also sold beautiful individual chocolates, well I love marzipan chocolate and in the past hubby has bought me expensive ones for my birthday treat but yesterday he said you cant have them anymore !! the lady in shop was impressed when I told her I had lost nearly 3 st. and gave me some broken sample bits, so that was it . I didn't really want them only for that minute, but had I been given a box it would have been difficult. One has to be very focused! Best wishes and continued good luck x

Hi Ros1,

Always love reading your posts as you are a constant inspiration to us big birds! Did you try to lift her up? I would have been tempted :)

I'm gonna try the milk carton thing soon - fill them with water and then try to lift the weight I have lost!

Keep up the good work - I know you will :)

Ros1 profile image
Ros1β€’ in reply tosueper

Thanks Sueper, as you say us big birds need to be there for each other. No I didn't pick her up, it might have been a bit of a surprise for the rest of the people in the restaurant. Lol πŸ˜†

I'm not going to try and lift what I've lost I might end-up with a hernia!

Ros, I'm surprised she even recognised you! What an amazingly inspirational woman you are! 9 stone is what I needed to lose at the start of my journey and knowing that you've managed it, makes it all the more possible for me :)

I'm so in awe of your achievements to date and can't wait to see the post telling us you're at goal!

WTG you! :)

Ros1β€’ in reply tomoreless

Thanks Moreless for your kind words. It's been a long journey to get to this point but the rewards both physically and mentally have made everyday worth while. This way of health eating has to be the way for me for the rest of my life.

One more pound to go to reach my big target then I will have to decide if I continue!

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toRos1

Oh my word, what a happy decision for you! Which way are you leaning towards at the moment? :)

Ros1 profile image
Ros1β€’ in reply tomoreless

I've been asked by my NHS dietitian I see every few months, who I had an appointment with a couple of weeks ago, to spend 3 month on a maintaining plan once I reach this target. This is because she knows that my long term fear is that once I stop losing weight I will gradually pile back on the weight, as I have done in the past. Her thought is that I need to prove to myself that this will not be the case.

I'm finding it a bit difficult to think about stopping whilst I still want to lose at least another stone. But I agreed with her that I will get down to 13st 7lb, another 4lbs from where I am now, and then start keeping myself between the 13st 7 &10lbs mark. It is going to be interesting to see how I manage. πŸ€”

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toRos1

I can so relate to the logic of that, because I've never managed to maintain and have always piled the weight back on, plus some!

I'm thinking it could be great for your body to have a break from "dieting" and when you come back to losing weight after the maintenance period, it should relinquish the fat a lot more readily :)

Good luck with your decision :)

Ros1 profile image
Ros1β€’ in reply tomoreless

Thanks moreless I think you're right. What I have to decide now is how a maintenance plan will work best for me. Do I keep to my normal eating at home and just relax my eating more when I'm out or alter my eating at home. I think I will post the question on here soon and ask our friends to give me some advise.

That sounds like a very wise move Ros, because neither you, nor I have any relevant experience! ;)

That is amazing - a heartfelt well done on your achievement. xx
