Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I last posted anything here.
7 months ago we brought our new puppy home & people said it would change my life, but no one could have known just how much! Our adorable girl is a real delight she's fitted into our family perfectly, she's so good around our many grandchildren and better behaved than most of them! Taking our girl out walking has been good for my weight loss and at last I've found an exercise I enjoy. However just over 3 weeks ago while I was out walking my dog a man started to verbally abuse & threaten both me and my dog and because my little dog has only ever known love & affection, a man shouting completely freaked her out and she bolted, somehow snapping her lead which meant I had to run after her. Anyway, long story but dog came back to me but on our way home I started to get chest pains that quickly go worse and I was rushed to hospital where they told me I was having a heart attack. I spent time in hospital although home now under the care of cardiac team. However, I'm currently unable to walk the dog or do very much and consequently the weight is creeping back which in turn is making me feel down which means I eat!
Sorry to have gone on so long, just needed to explain my story and ask for your help with my binge eating and sedentary lifestyle that I currently have little or no control over.
Best wishes to you all on your respective lifestyle changes.

So sorry to hear what happened to you and your dog that was a horrible man. Glad you managed to get your dog back but sorry to hear it ended up with you having an heart attack. Give yourself time to recovery and don't worry about any weight gain at the moment as it's more important you get well again.
I am sorry to hear that Jenever how scary - both ends of the tale! I know weight gain can make you feel down and then that makes you eat. Perhaps get some healthy snacks in like nuts and fruit. Could you do a craft like cross stitch while you recover. I am 43 but I struggle to see the Aida now but I bought a brilliant magnifying glass from amazon. Get well soon 🤕
Hi Jenever there are some very unpleasant people around, so sorry the one you encountered caused such a chain reaction.
I trust you are on the mend and aware of the possible new restrictions you may have imposed on you. ❤️'s are precious and when they give a warning... We have to take notice.
So glad you got your little girl back.. 🐶 It's frightening when they get loose once they are spooked.
I am certain you will get encouragement and support here to help you avoid the old habits that you've worked hard to over come. There are many posts on here with great advice and many suggestions for distractions too.
I'm so,sorry to hear about your unpleasant incident and a heart attack!! Oh my . . . That's dreadful, how scary for you 😳
I'm sure with al, your experience you will soon re-evaluate your eating to allow for your enforced incapacity. When I was ill I had to reduce my calories and managed to maintain untill I was better. I listened to radio and digital podcasts to help pass the time, there are lots of health and nutrition ones out there, as well as other interesting ones, 😊
You may also like the new Daily Diary on the forum, posted daily, (obviously!) that many of us find useful for keeping on track so please have a look. 😊
Tomorrow I'm going to focus on healthy eating, I have a few do's and don't s to follow regarding food and drink now anyway. I'll certainly be checking out the daily diary. Have a good week Anna.
Oh my what a horrid man, I'm glad you got your dog back. I hope you're recovering ok after your heart attack Hun, it's understandable you feel down about gaining weight but you need to take things steady, as nteapea has said try and set up some healthy snacks like Apple slices, spread with peanut butter and a sprinkling of raisins (good unless you're allergic to something). I'm sure other people can help with snack ideas but most importantly don't push yourself too quickly, take it day at a time and if you're feeling low come chat to us x
Oh my goodness how awful for you I'm so sorry to hear you had such a terrifying experience
I would say getting better is the main thing at the moment and not to worry about your weight for a little while as you have been through such a dreadful ordeal I'm so glad your little dog came back to you but just so sorry you had a heart attack
I lost weight not being able to exercise at all so you can do it if you count your calories but just get yourself well and once you get back on your feet get back to walking your beautiful little girl you will be able to lose weight and I'm sure you won't binge eating either
You take lots of care and remember we are all here to give you support
What a dreadful thing to have happened. Not surprised that your little dog has changed your life. They soon become precious members of the family. Take care of yourself and concentrate on getting better.💐💐💐
Hi Jenever. This is such a sad tale! It sounds like getting your new dog was an absolute life turnaround - what's her name and can we see a pic?
For me I find exercise works in a few ways. Obviously it burns calories but it's a great way to pass time without thinking about eating and it also makes me feel I don't want to waste my efforts and eat unhealthy stuff afterwards. So maybe focus on recreating the last two. Anna's suggestion to listen to nutrition podcasts and Minniewinny's suggestion to take up a craft both seem good options that will fill the gap left by not being able to exercise. Also your dog can still give you lots of pleasure even if you're not the one taking her out, find ways to play with her indoors maybe
Lastly I really recommend reappraising the contents of your kitchen during this recovery period. If you're housebound, that can work in your favour if you make sure only healthy stuff is available. Ask for help from husband etc, clear out/hide unhealthy temptations, and get in lots of lettuce wrap recipe ingredients or similar. Keep us posted and wishing you a speedy recovery
As always some good and interesting suggestions, I'm determined to turn this into a positive, hospital has a cardiovascular exercise group for people with heart conditions but I can't start till 5th June so I have a few weeks to sort out my eating habits.
Welcome back, it's great to see you again. I am however so sorry to hear about the incident with that man - and also that you had a heart attack. I am glad to hear you are under the care of the Cardiac Team, and I hope they are taking excellent care of you.
Just wanted to give you a big hug, and wish you the best for your recovery - and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy some walks with your lovely dog in the future, once you're feeling up to it - and in the meantime, try not to worry about things - it's important you allow yourself time to get well.
Hello Jenever so sorry to hear what happened to you and your little dog. I have had a health issue over the last few months which means I can do less exercise than before, found my dog has been such a good friend in some difficult times for me, sure yours will be too. I would concentrate as others have said on making sure you have a junk food free home to start with, that helps, get healthy fruit, veg, easy to cook food in. Expect the hospital has advised on eating well for your condition.
Someone gave me a large 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and I laughed at first and thought I would never do it; but once I started I was surprised to find it very absorbing and enjoyable, now regularly have one on the go.
Hope you get back to walking your little furry friend again soon, sure you will.
Tomorrow is the day I start again, I refuse to sit back and become a 'victim'. I can start walking my girl again this coming week albeit only for 20 minutes at a gentle pace, but I'm looking forward to that.
Hi Jenever so sorry to read your post. Just remember how you first felt and the joy you felt. Do you have the strength to get back out there? I think it would do both you and your puppy lots of good. Good luck. You will get there I've no doubt about that.
