Around the world in 80 days - please post kms/steps/miles for Sunday 24 January (Part 1)

β€’146 Replies

Dear Travellers

Please post kms/steps/miles for Sunday 24 January.

Today we will be climbing the stairs of the twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We can do this. After what we have achieved this week, this will be a challenge that we can do together. It will all be worth it when you see the view of how far you've come πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

We are now on Day 30 of our voyage around the world. 7 more days before we reach Hongkong. Lots more wonderful places to visit including Philippines and Cambodia. Can't wait πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Hi,

Am I right that there are 2,170 steps in the twin towers? So that is about 2km? I could be completely wrong here of course.

But if I am right then I am already at the top and the view is amazing :D

2.5 km for me - may add some more later, we'll see :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply tosueper

Woohoo Super, wtg you :)

According to my calculator, that's 1.6275K, so you're almost at ground level again now :D

I have 2 more kms to add so I am definitely at the bottom now. Hope everyone else enjoys the view :)

Today must have been my slackest day ever...

I did have to walk to the fridge and the stove and the toilet a few times, therefore I clocked up all of 1km. I am well, it's just been a really hot and lazy day - we've both stayed in the aircon watching the series Orange is the New Black...started season 2 now :)

That sounds like the perfect sunday to me qd :D

That's going to be a bit of a challenge with the 2,170 steps straight up into the sky. Do we have all day? Are there stopping off places on the way up? The most I've ever done is 900m in the Alps. But hey - I'm up for the challenge!

moreless profile image

This is a serious challenge for me. I live in a bungalow because I don't do stairs! :o

Hi Lizzy, Moreless & Everyone,

We're making great progress - amazing to hear we're on Day 30 of our Voyage already - it's great fun and really motivating.

My results for today (Sunday 24th January 2016) are:

Walking 9.5kms

It's a full moon tonight! The water should look great by moonlight!

Hope everyone has a great night.

12.7 km today. Longish walk in the English Garden (a huge park just north of the centre of Munich) down into the city itself, where I bought myself some roasted chestnuts as a reward for teetering around on some very icey paths. The rest was just pottering. Wanted to maybe do a run this evening, but I don't think it's going to happen. Will continue with C25K instead tomorrow morning.

I asked him today could he remember ever being able to pick me up 46 years ago and he said he thought he did once ,so I warned him he would soon have to try again as I hit 2 st loss today !!

Oh well done Saga! :)

Our car could do with a washing, but it'll only get dirty again! :D

I've not been on my bike for a long time I always do a Mrs Doyle and fall off so I just stick to walking and going up and down my stairs. It's amazing how quickly those visits to the loo add up after drinking lots of cold water. I also make a point of carrying things one at a time to add extra trips up and down the stairs. Worth a try? πŸ€“

Today I clocked 7.9km walking, and 3.4km running. I drew up a 5 to 10K plan for running, to increase distance obvs!, but sadly IBS didn't let me complete it. Still, I got out there and exercised for an hour, and walked the dogs morning and night... I was going to go back and try to swim again but realise I am really tired and kinda looking forward to being a couch potato. oh dear! It's weigh in tomorrow!!!

ps I am not fond of stairs. But I can now cope with the four flights at one office I visit, most times, almost no problem... I used to take the lift! :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toAvatheGardener

Aaaah, the best laid plans :( You've had a great day though and really clocked up some great K's! It's only this challenge that' kept me going today, because I would much rather have slobbed out! :)

Yes, weigh-in! You'll be just fine :)

I'm absolutely hopeless with stairs and I've got nowhere to practice them.

You're doing really well :)

AvatheGardener profile image
AvatheGardener7lbsβ€’ in reply tomoreless

Thanks more less! This challenge is a great way of getting us to do a little bit extra πŸ˜€ Check out your kms!!! I don't have room for indoor gym equipment but I guess I could go to the gym- there's one attached to the swimming pool I believe πŸ˜† But I'd rather be able to run outdoors if at all possible... However I have been told that using a cross trainer would be good to help the shoulders keep as much movement as possible so I guess I really should head over there...

Not tonight though 😴

Well, managed to get rid of the wellies for this mornings walk. The guests have left but must have slipped the dog a fiver as he had me all over the place today. Clocked up 14226 steps, 9.5 kms as a result. Back to the old routine this week so hoping to up the mileage a wee bit. Dreading the weigh in tomorrow πŸ™ˆ

Hi Moreless, you can add another 3.4 km to my tally today. I did do that run - and it's the fault of this website. If I hadn't written down that I was thinking of doing it I would have just pushed the thought aside. As it was it bugged me all evening, along the lines of "Go on you lazy so-and-so, you know you want to. Come on you're lagging behind on the C25k, you can get into week 4 earlier if you go now etc". Normally only get feelings like that about chocolate and crisps! My husband looked at me as if I'd gone bonkers when I got my gear on.

Woohoo JC, I'm just loving hearing that! What a trouper! :)

Ooh the twin towers, last time I went there, I caught the lift and drank a cocktail πŸ˜€πŸΎ. Maybe now I should walk the stairs?

Evening 😊

Taken the lift up the tower to give my leg a rest - what an amazing view!!!

Today 4.53 km. Not as sore as yesterday so rest is helping 😊

Missing my "me" time 😒 but hoping to get back to it eventually 😊

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toElissy

I'm with you Elissy, but haven't got the excuse of a bad leg :)

I'm so pleased the pain has eased a bit, it just goes to show that rest is what it needs.

Maybe you could find some other way to get your me time. I think Gonti goes to the gym and lifts weights as a way of chilling :)

Elissy profile image
Elissy3kgβ€’ in reply tomoreless

Hmmm, I really haven't got the time to go to the gym, but maybe I can at least go walking again soon.

Been looking at the bike attachment for indoor cycling since you been racing the miles, but my bike is not that comfy 😁

I'll see how my leg is doing over the next week first 😊

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toElissy

I bought a super comfortable saddle for my bike, but it is still painful after a while. I opt for short sharp bursts, rather than extended periods of sitting.

I wouldn't be without the stand though, it's been a godsend.

Just take good care of that leg! :)

Ok, before I forget, as is my habit, I shall post my score, but first a couple of things to share with you all:

1. I have a new rowing machine! Woohoo! Unfortunately, it's going to take a bit of getting used to. I can hardly pull the "oars" on the lowest setting! How week and feeble am I? :o

2. The rowing machine sits low down on the floor and is extremely difficult to get on and off of. I astounded myself and my OH by being able to get myself up off the floor with NO assistance! YIPEE!! I can't tell you how happy this makes me.........the simple pleasures in life :)

After all my waffle, my totals are

Cycling - 17.28K's

Rowing - 0.3K's!!! :D :D :D

Total - 17.58K's

sueper profile image
sueperβ€’ in reply tomoreless

Well done getting off the floor - I once couldn't get myself up too.

I think you need to use your legs a fair with a rowing machine - you probably know this but I remember when I first tried I didn't realise quite how much you need to use your legs :)

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply tosueper

Lucca gave me some great tips and with this machine, I could cheat and scoot back and forward without using the oars, but as it's supposed to be doing something about these wings of mine, I'd only actually be cheating myself! :)

I've had 3 falls when I was by myself and had the devil's own job of getting myself back on my feet. It's a big relief to my OH and me, knowing that I won't be stuck again :)

Well done- great numbers πŸ‘ Where do you feel the rowing? Legs, bum, arms, shoulders, back?! I used to really enjoy a rowing machine and I absolutely love kayaking! Needless to say it was a complete fail for me when we went kayaking in France this summer- the mind says go but the shoulders say NO! πŸ˜€

moreless profile image
morelessAdministrator7 stoneβ€’ in reply toAvatheGardener

Yes, all of the above!! :o The real pain is my knees though as it's a tight bend as you scoot forwards. However, I shall get used to it as I have the walking and cycling :)
