Starting today

After years of yo-yo dieting I'm going to try and change my lifestyle rather than go on yet another diet. I feel slightly mad for starting it so near to Christmas, but I'm not putting it off anymore!

So here's to determination and weight loss! I hope to find like minded people out there.

Merry Christmas xx

Hi and welcome sibbid :)

I think you'll find that the vast majority of us have tried and tested all the diets known to man (woman) and have finally reached the conclusion that a complete rethink of our eating and exercise is what's really required.

If you look around the forum and read past posts, you'll find heaps of inspirational stories from other members.

This is a great time to start, because just maybe you'll stop yourself gaining another 1/2 stone :)

All the best to you :)

Hi Sibbid and a warm welcome, you will find lots of friendly supportive people on this site, all at different stages of dieting and each person with their own particular challenge.

Most of us base our diets on the 12 week NHS plan and it seems to have a quite high success rate. I don't follow the plan for my own reasons, but I do base my personal dieting on the 12 week plan and have been very pleased with it. It's a good place to start.

Whilst the plan places a lot of emphasis on calorie counting and weight, I would suggest you look very closely at the number of food stuffs in your diet that have added sugar, salt and fat. Most of my success has been down to doing all I can to eliminate these from my diet :)

One thing I wish I'd paid more attention to, is measurements. I started the diet using weight as my main indication of progress, this is not always accurate or consistent, so now I use a tape measure to check progress too. Often one form of measurement will stall, whilst the other shows improvement.

Happy dieting :)

Onwards and downwards :)

And a Merry Christmas to you x

Hi Sibbid,

I think it's great that you've decided to start today, because there's no reason to wait till after Christmas to start a healthy lifestyle.

You sound determined and that's a great frame of mind to start out on. Good luck with everything.

I see some really great responses to your post already, so I don't really have much to add, except to say that if you like a 'group weigh-in' then look out for our Fab 5'ers Monday weigh-in post, which I will post this Monday (14th December) before 7am. You would be very welcome to join us. It's a really friendly and supportive group of people who weigh-in throughout the day, and it really helps to keep us motivated and on track.

But whatever you do, have a great weight loss journey. Hope to see you around and about in the forum.

Lowcal :-)
