Despite 60 mins exercising daily mon-fri and more weekends, walkimg dog etc. I sit down mon-fri in my job and am not losing weight. It's ruining my health & my relationship. Other people lose weight. Why can't I? I don't drink/smoke, I eat healthy, love veg & fruit etc. I have previously tried the gym & slimming world.

Losing weight
Hi
First of all: don't despair. You CAN do it. I have learned here that the number one factor is what you eat not necessarily how much you exercise, although that DOES help.
You stated that you eat healthily, have you considered portion control? Maybe in your case it is more a case of how much you eat as opposed to what? (I'm just throwing suggestions, that might not apply to you).
Also maybe consider using my fitness pal app on your phone or on your laptop and log exactly what you eat. It gives you proportions of what you should be aiming for every day you might realise you're eating maybe too many carbs or too much sugar? (Even sugar in fruit counts!).
Please do not give up, what is your bmi like? How much do you think you need to lose? We have all started at some point there is no reason for it to not work at some point for you!!
Hi Robino,
Nussaybah has hit the nail on the head. I was in the same position as you 4 1/2 years ago, plenty of exercise and what I thought was a healthy diet. Unfortunately, I wasn't as clever as you. You've found this site and are looking for answers. I gave up the ghost and gained stones in weight.
When I eventually got my act together and joined this site, I realised my diet wasn't as great as I'd thought. My portion sizing was way off and I was eating fruit til it came out of my ears, as though it didn't count.
Download the NHS 12 week plan and see how it compares to what you're eating. Maybe you'll be able to tweak a few things and start to see a downward movement in your weight
All the best
Hi Robino - I'm vegetarian (or pescetarian - I eat a little fish too) - overall I feel I eat a diet mostly composed of fruit and veg which is surely very healthy. I followed the couch to 5k programme before joining this forum, was already cycling a fair bit and generally considered myself to lead a 'healthy' lifestyle. But even when you consider yourself pretty informed there is a lot to learn from looking at ingredients lists, the effects of sugar, alcohol, salty foods etc, carbs in veg as well as the obvious stuff, and the way you cook your food (for example I was frying everything before - now I steam, bake, poach). The NHS 12 week plan was the gamechanger for me - because it educated me about fibre, strategies for snacking, eating out etc, and also weighing in here every monday also really helped. I lost the excess weight and am now at a healthy BMI, and definitely feel I've learned a lot in the process. So it is possible. Have faith and maybe take a look at ways to knuckle down to calorie counting, portion control and understanding the precise nutritional content of what you eat. Good luck
Luckily my Wife is in charge of the food & is very strict with me. Good job too. 😄
If you follow the 12 weeks plan from NHS, you will lose weight. However remember that by excercising you will replace fat with muscles and muscles weight more although you WILL look slimmer.
Don't despair.
Friends of mine also claimed to eat healthy, buying stuff from the Health Section and having juices and bla bla bla. I looked up all their sugar contents and was horrified at the amount of sugar they were consuming. No wonder........
Check your labels, learn how to eat healthy through NHS 12 week plan, write down everything you eat, every calories of whatever you cook. Follow one goal at a time and you will get there
I too had this problem a while ago and thought I was doing all the right things but not managing to lose. I had to go back to basics and weight & record everything I ate including the cheeky nibbles which I pretended didn't need counting (they do!!). This helped me to identify where I was going wrong and with the help of the NHS 12 week plan and the birthday present of a fitbit, I am now back on track and losing steadily.
Hi Robino,
Just wanted to add something to the excellent advice of your respondees. Although I am fairly new at this it has worked, have lost pounds, and am more mobile,( lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure etc).
Buy yourself a little kitchen weight scale, they all have ounces and grams and milliliters and are adjustable to subtract container weight.
That will help you tally the 300-- 400 calorie meal, and even snacks. I had no idea that some pears (snack) and other fruits weighed so much - as to "cost" a couple hundred calories. Keep moving, keep writing to this forum and you will find your weight is controllable. You are one of us now!
Hi Robino, the quality of your life is governed by the questions you ask!
Good Question!
Weight loss for the overweight is a learning process and that's exactly what you describe in your post.
You've analysed your intake, and activity levels and you've looked at your self and identified what you want to achieve.
Everyone on here is in the same position.
If you are active try making a small change to your routine. Do this for a week and see what happens.
Then look at your intake. I've recently got stuck at a particular weight. Finding it hard to get out and be as active as I was over the summer. So I went back to basics.
I weighed out all my portions again. Spotted where I was overdoing it and reeled a few things back in. Carried this on for a while and the weight loss started again.
I'm learning about how my body interacts with the food I eat.
look at your activity, your intake, make a single change, stick to it and then measure. If you've got accurate scales use them, use a tape measure - whatever you've got that you know is accurate and works. Then, and this is the hard bit - stick to it.
When we are losing weight, whatever it is we are doing is working. We need to know what we've done and four on that.
When we are not losing weight, whatever we are doing isn't working. We need to go back and look again at what we are doing and make one change and measure the outcome.
We're all learning and that's good!
maybe u are doing something wrong
Keep learning Keep on it When you are healthier, happier and more in control of your live you'll really really thank yourself!
