Exercise alternatives

hello guys, can I consider Zumba dvd a good weightloss activity plan? I weigh 106 kg and suffer from back pain and some skin problem caused by being overweight and I am seeing a dietitian plus I just stated a weightloss diet. I cant run because of split shins. Any exercise alternatives?

Zumba is very active lots of hip movements, legs going all directions. If you are able to walk try walking at a fast pace, go up amd down your stairs making sure you lift your legs high or you could look into joining a gym there are real cheap ones out there and some doctors will recommend you to one sometimes free depending on if they class you has over weight.

Good luck

Thank you, unfortunatly I live in a rural area that is also close to a small town with no gyms thats why I bought the dvd, its quite safer to exercise indoors around here. I guess I need to exercise well with the Zumba

Hi,

You could try swimming, if you have access to a pool. It's easier on the joints. Also walking, I do quite a lot of walking myself it's my main form of exercise. Maybe there's a walking club or group in your area you could join if you have safety concerns.

If you do zumba - I used to love it until they stop offering it at the gym, be careful to listen to your body and don't go too high impact. So no jumping until you are sure your can.... you know the old gym saying- no pain, no injury :-)

I don't know if this will help but I have just lost 3 stone in 4 months (not following mgs diet plan) I have been eating around 1250 calories a day - I haven't exercised at all....... Just cut my calories drank water and changed my milk to skimmed in Tea/Coffee and Almond milk on cereal - I also ate choc some days and cake and still lost - about 2lb a week - still got to lose another stone but my outlook and enthusiasm has changed dramatically since losing the weight - I have hip bursitis so struggle doing any exercise. Just stick to less calories than what you are having usually, fresh veg plenty of water and lots of positivity :-) Good Luck :-D

Wow okay that is interesting, sorry about your problem its good you have found a way around though...congratsss on the weightloss thank you for the motivation...

That's brilliant as my husband and myself would struggle to do exercise, mine would be limited to walking, and maybe a short go on exercise bike as I have osteoarthritis affecting, spine, knees, hips, knock.

My husband has spinal damage and he's in pain and it affects his walking ability due to legs being affected. So we cannot go for a walk together😢

To hear you have lost weight without exercise is really encouraging and it has given me a boost of motivation, so thanks for the post.

Walk at home dvd with booster cables (leslie sansone) available on eBay.

Easy on joints. You can build up distance .cables help to add resistance and build sleek lean muscle .

I started from zero and now do a 3 mile walk at least 3x a week. I have toned and lost all my excess weight.

I started by deliberately parking my car further from each destination and building more walking into my day. Getting off the bus a couple of stops early, taking the stairs rater than the lift. If you become mindful of the need to increase exercise and challenge the lazy thinking of needing to park as close to each destination, it is amazing how much exercise you can build into each day naturally. Get a pedometer or fitbit aim to do 10000 steps. I thought of each step I took as a step towards getting slimmer and fitter. I then started the walk at home dvd's I set my alarm 45 mins early and do my 3mile walk before breakfast and showering. I don't need to travel to a gym or change and shower an extra time. I feel it sets me up for the day. I feel fab and have achieved all the weight loss ( am now 2 kg under my goal)

I am more toned than I have ever been and am loving all the compliments from people who haven't seen me in a while.

All the best on your journey to health and fitness

12 mins this time try and push it to 15 next. Although zumba for me wouldn't have worked at the beginning I wasn't fit enough. I walked myself fitter. The dvds I used are multi muscle low level aerobic but they work!

Hey Thule. First, let me say it's so lovely to find another South African (I can tell by that name). Second, I have found the Nike Training app to be quite a helpful little gem. It gives you quite an intense workout so really try to go at your own pace but you can build on it every day. The app does need data so I made sure to download all the workouts in an area where I could access free wifi. I wish you all the best on your journey.
