Man flu.

Feeling pretty low at present. I caught a cold and have eaten heartily. I had a full roast today with all the trimmings and went back for more. I thought to myself, there's no point in making myself more miserable by ignoring the fact that my body needs fuel. I've resisted snacks and nibbles and declined desert but, somehow I just know my weigh-in is going to be a disappointment this week.

It's school holidays this week and looking after a 5 yr old and a toddler, both boys, is going to be tough and I have to be fit to cope. So I'm concentrating of fighting the head cold for the time being.

Even gaining a pound over a couple of days, I should be showing a loss of around 2lb on Monday so all is not lost.

The doctors are now giving out flu jabs for those that qualify (not me). So don't forget your jab if it applies to you

It would be interesting to know whether others adjust their diet when feeling poorly, and whether others think this is of benefit, or is it the beginning of making excuses for abandoning the plan?

Hi Tewson,

So sorry to hear you're suffering with a bad cold. I really hope you'll feel better really soon. I think it's good that you're looking after yourself, and I think it's important to ensure your body receives good nutrients at any time, but particularly when you're feeling unwell. I often rely on soups at such times, as they are filling and satisfying and provide plenty of liquid, which I think somehow feeds a cold and provides sustenance.

Take care, and good luck for the weigh-in tomorrow. The most important thing though is that you get better soon.

Thank you so much Lowcal. I dare say I shall be back in health within the next 24 hours. There are so many with a lot worse than a puny cold and I feel quite ashamed of myself for being such a wimp.

A good nights sleep should do the trick.

No, you are not a wimp, Tewson. It can be really horrible having a cold, and it can take it out of anyone - so don't be hard on yourself. :-)

Hopefully a good night's sleep will help though, and you'll hopefully be feeling some improvement tomorrow.

I suffer with mild bipolar, I get sugar days and I crave crap, it's normally only 24 hrs, I know it will pass and go with it.

Try lots of herbal tea, soup and 'healthy' comfort food, you can re focus when you are well, the scales are just that, think next week will be better when I'm well.

Hi Tewson - I'm a firm believer in berocca! Or the tesco own brand version. Also things like feroglobin, floradix, top up your iron. Last tip - gargle listerine. Kills all the bacteria in the back of your throat before they make you ill. Also makes anything you eat straight afterwards taste funny, which may help stave off some of the man flu hungries. Thanks Ruth_canal_runner. I love berocca as a refreshing drink too, I don't take it regular as I prefer immuneace which contains selenium and has proven itself very effective in the past. I purchased a pack of 10 tubes of berocca a couple of years ago and am nearly out of it. Thanks for the reminder, I shall buy some more today :)

I find berocca to be very good for the occasional morning after the night before :)

I'm in the same boat, hae a rotten cold this weekend and just eaten absolute rubbish. Not weighed myself yet so not sure of the damage but I've bought lots of fresh fruit and off to buy veg after work today to try to get rid of it the healthy way this week!
