Hi everyone just started on here and am really excited to find something that hopefully works! I'm a big fan of sweets and chocolate and was wondering if anyone can suggest any good replacements? Thank you! X

I get sweet cravings too!

I would normally try to kill the craving with fruit, or a Ryvita fruit crunch cracker with a little 0%fat live yoghurt drizzled with a little honey and sliced apple on top - it's much nicer than it sounds!!!

Failing that, I have a chocolate stash! I chop up a choccy snack in to bite size bits and put them in the freezer. I currently have a Cadburys "Chomp" bar in there. It's 110 calories, and in about 20pieces.... And as it's chocolate covered toffee it can take me hours to eat! It works best with good, dark chocolate though. I small frozen bit of chocolate with take a while to melt in your tongue, and it will give you the choccy hit you are looking for!

Hope it helps!

I wish I could be someone who has a block of dark chocolate that they can steal a square or two from to be satisfied but I am afraid I have had to just cold turkey it. I have my occasional lash out but I also find sugar free gum helps - just plain old peppermint for me.

Between the pretend sweetness and an initial rush of mint I find it can help to disburse the cravings plus your mouth is busy as well.

The other thing that can sometimes help if you are an after dinner chocoholic is to brush your teeth. Once this is done you just naturally feel less inclined to then have chocolate.

GL - I know it can be tough - we all do :)

I have a crazy sweet tooth but this year I've lost 5 & 1/2 st and I still have treats! I know some people need to go cold turkey but I think I've need my treats to keep me going. I've taken to buy mini things paying attention to the calories. I go for WW cake bars at around 80kcals and get these little fruit purée sweets I find in pound land which are just 55kcals a little bag. At first I used to keep them in my car as in the evening I would just be like a yoyo going to the kitchen eating pack after pack but now I've trained myself and I can just leave them in the house and eat 1 at a time.

Try to figure out what works best for you, you may slip up from time to time but do keep trying. If I can succeed there's hope for you all!

I agree, since I started (fairly recently), knowing I have a 100 cal snack every evening to look forward to keeps me perfectly happy - I don't feel deprived. Sucking 4 tic tacs or jaffa alpen light bars (70 cal) are faves of mine lol!

They're not "halo healthy" but I take 4 fruity tic tacks out the pack and suck them with a cup of tea in the evening if I need something sweet. It does keep the mouth occupied for a while and works for me.

The main time for me is evenings. I am watching that I am within my daily calorie limits, keeping a food diary etc. I allow a 100 cal snack every day within my allowance, which I know I have available in the evening if I want it. Alpen light jaffa cereal bars are 70 cals, have a good orangey kick and a drizzle of choc on top if you really need a replacement for choc bars. They are on my 100 cal snack list too lol. I have some high percentage dark choc in the cupboard...2 big squares is 100 cals...I break the 2 squares off and put the bar away. They are big enough squares to break into 4, so I end up with 8 small squares of choc, and I suck it at intervals, again with a cup of tea, if it's my snack of choice for the day.

I think it's essential to plan ahead a bit, to eat well, to fill up on the right kinds of foods at mealtimes, so that you don't feel hungry, and that should naturally stop the urge to snack as much. That's what I am finding anyway.

Good luck! You can always come on here and have a rant about cravings etc rather than going to the cupboard too! :-)

I can't take credit for these sweets, but i am going to share the idea, as they are fab!!!

So easy to make and are a great substitute for wine gums or haribos, with a lot less syns!!!

This recipe makes about 48 sweets and its only 3 syns for the lot on extra easy!!

Ingredients

2 sachets of gelatine crystal

180 ml cold water

2 packets of no sugar jelly crystals

½ pint boiling water

Method

Mix the gelatine crystals and the cold water in a bowl and let it stand for 10 minutes.

Mix the jelly crystals with the boiling water.

Mix both liquids together making sure everything is dissolved.

If you think the mixture will stick to your moulds lightly spray them with frylight. I find silicone moulds are the best.

Pour into the mould about ½ cm deep, put into the fridge and let set for about an hour, pop out moulds and enjoy!!!

Jelly Sweets – 3 syns for whole lot

2 sachets of sugar free jelly (1.5 syns each)

2 sheets of gelatine or 1 sachet of powdered gelatine

1 pot Muller Light yoghurt

Mix the jelly and gelatine in ½ pint of boiling water, pour 2 thirds of the mixture in to the mould and put in the fridge to start to set.

Mix remaining jelly with the Muller light and pour on top of the mould.

Put it back in the fridge to set

2 versions of the same thing. Very popular with Slimming World members

I treat myself on Saturday and Sunday nights to some dry roasted in the microwave almonds, brazils, olives in chili and soft dried apricots. I also have a small measure of my homemade blackberry vodka. That's my idea of the high life lol

Popcorn is quite good, and thread days there are some weird and wonderful flavoured about, I've recently had coconut and vanilla popcorn, and maple and bacon popcorn! Both were bought in Waitrose, and both really tasty!
