I enjoy full fat milk. I have two grand children who like it too. Its the only thing I am not prepared to give up. Is this a terrible sin?

I personally don't think any natural full fat is a sin so long as you only have enough to satisfy your appetite and don't over eat. I'd rather have a small portion of natural fat along with all its fat soluble vitamins than highly processed low fat foods with loads of sugar or artificial sweetener to make them palatable and very little nutrients. If you eat plenty of veg the fat helps you absorb the nutrients from them as well.

Hi P-pnallen,

I also have the full-fat milk in the morning with my porridge, and I absolutely love the taste - I used to have skimmed milk or soya milk, but decided to enjoy a creamier taste first thing - and I have to say I'm pleased I did. It's delicious! I still count the calories etc on MyFitnesspal, and I have semi-skimmed the rest of the day (i.e. with tea and coffee etc).

I definitely don't consider full-fat milk to be a sin! I consider it to be tasty and full of nutrients.

Hope you're having a great weekend.

Lowcal :-)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with drinking full fat milk. I'm not a milk drinker but I eat full fat cheese as opposed to the lighter reduced fat versions. The taste is much better.

Not at all...nothing is off limits as long as you factor in the fat/calorific value into your daily allowance. Personally I have decided not to exclude anything but I hope over the weeks I have taught myself how to reduce the portion size and how to say "NO"

Its not as though you are eating a tub of sugar :)

I prefer skim or low fat and these days I find full cream to full on for my taste buds BUT I do love a good vanilla malt milkshake made with full cream milk...well I USEd to - those days are behind me now :)

There are plenty of people who are now saying some fat is good for you and recommend full fat milk. I myself have semi skimmed or 1% milk but fry everything in coconut oil which is a highly saturated fat or sometimes butter. The plan I'm following says you need some fat to burn fat.

I am generally careful about too much fat but don't get too worried about it.

Sugar is the big enemy in my opinion and I'm careful with carbs.

It's definitely not a sin. There's scientific evidence saying that full fat dairy is both good for us and may even help with weight loss (possibly because low fat dairy is often full of sugar).

Well, any kind of non-human milk is effectively stolen from a baby animal of course and almost invariably involves an animal welfare compromise so it is ethically dubious... and for three-quarters of the world's population over the age of 7 years, lactose intolerance means that more than about 250ml a day will cause symptoms (the rest of us have mutated!). Plenty of evidence too to suggest that a vegan diet results in lower risks of a number of serious health outcomes. But neither of those really affect a decision between full fat, semi-skimmed or skimmed cow's milk. I am often bemused by all these silly hobby diets that involve drinking black coffee (fine if that's how you prefer it). If you are drinking so much tea or coffee in a day that the calories from milk make so much the difference, you are probably drinking too much tea or coffee for your health.

I am firmly of the belief that for many of us if you *really* enjoy your food in terms of flavour and mouth feel, it will be easier to re-educate yourself to eat less of it... it is when you are unconsciously searching for something that hits a spot that it is harder to stop. Sometimes though the 'enjoyment' is more an attitude and a rebelliousness which is not very mature or helpful so it can be useful to test out and try different things from time to time. Our tastes change over time too so you might find your appetite for it diminishes naturally without forcing it.

I find full fat cow's milk pretty disgusting now in most things and provided it is fresh actively prefer skimmed in almost everything, but then I don't eat cereal and milk as it seems to disagree with me whether it is animal or plant milk, even though I can eat grains and porridge. If having full fat milk on your cereal feels like a lovely luxurious treat, then that's a real bonus isn't it, so have it, beats chocolate or crisps or doughnuts. You might want to consider *where* you really enjoy the full fat product (bearing in mind that fat content has been manipulated by breeding and feeding over the years so it isn't necessarily more 'natural') and use something lower calorie or lower fat if and when you are not going to notice. (These days I often make my porridge with all water but have a bit of double cream swirled on top)

If you are recording your eating, it is easy to make your own decisions about your eating priorities - are these calories worth it to *me*?

I think it is a personal choice but for me I loved a drinking chocolate while out only yesterday I ordered one while out with my daughter , no cream topping no marshmallow , to my utter surprise it tasted like candy , I twice made my daughter try it , she kept saying that's how it always tastes , so without realising my taste buds have changed
