Start with 1700 and see if it works for you. If you are not losing weight then cut it down further.
Good luck
See what works for you. Maybe plan for 1400, and then there is 300 spare for if you go a little over or you fancy a treat
I definitely wouldn't think you should have more than 1700 but if you stay under that but over 1400 and still lose at a satisfactory rate then great.
If you don't lose next week try staying between 1400 and 1600.
As you lose the weight you will probably need to cut your intake again but reducing gradually as you learn to adjust to a healthier diet is no bad thing..
If I was you I would probably aim nearer the 1400 on weekdays but allow for some treats at the weekend.
Love the idea of sticking to 1400 kcal in week and then allowing a bit more at the weekends. Thanks for the tip x
Golly! 1700 is a banquet - even 1400 is good. You'll lose it easily to begin with. See if you can go for 1400 and do what exercise you can. I'm on 1000 - 1400 a day with some blips along the way, but I have lost 20lbs in 12 weeks so it does work. Perseverance is the answer. All the very best, BL
If I were you, I would try to stick to the 1700 Kcal intake suggested by MFP. 1.5 lbs per week is a fairly aggressive target ... that's a deficit of 750 kcal per day. Limiting your intake to 1400 kcal per day would cause you to lose over 2 lbs per week.
Thank you all for taking the time to respond. Going on the past weeks food logs I've been averaging at around 100 kcal so going to try 1400 in week and allow a bit more at weekends.
On day 2 and feeling motivated
Exercise is the key thing here.
You can HAVE your 1700 calories if you do an extra 30 minutes of power walking because that burns <250> calories.
If you use exercise to balance your calories then you can achieve your 1.5 lb weight especially considering your size at the moment. Bigger people like us just lose it faster.
I use MFP plus a Fitbit - the fitbit tells MFP exactly how much I am moving steps wise and MFP tells me what this is in calories I have burned so they work well together.
Thanks for the reply Dave. I use MFP too I also have a Samsung wrist thing, it might be a fitbit? ?? that came with my phone, not used it yet maybe this is the time! I'll have to see if it links up to MFP.
I consumed 1570 calories yesterday and also did 30 mins at the gym (not much but a start. 8km on bike on random hill section and 2km on x-trainer.
I didn't log it on MFP as I didn't want it to to show I had more kcal to eat.
