Well done for taking the plunge and actually getting on the scales! With a lot of determination and willpower you will get that extra weight off. I have just managed to lose 2st but still need to lose another stone to get to a healthy bmi. I have completely changed my eating habits and have cut out all the junk food. I now eat lots of tuna, sweet potato, brown bread, avocado, fat free yogurts and fruit and veg and eggs.

Good luck and please keep us posted with your weight loss journey. Remember to set yourself goals and think of that wonderful feeling when your clothes start to feel loose and people actually start to notice you looking different :) x

Welcome Chris. What is your plan for losing weight? Have you looked at the nhs 12 week plan? I started 8 weeks ago weighing 17 stone 13lbs after giving birth at end of March. Truly shocking how I used my pregnancy to allow myself to get to that weight. I now weigh 16 stone 3 and 3/4lbs today and can't wait to weigh 15 something. Still a long way to go but have found this site extremely supportive and full of practical suggestions

Hi, I can relate to that feeling of horror! I was 15st 6lbs at the end of April, the heaviest I have ever been. I forced myself to go and see the nurse at our surgery and ended up blubbing all over her! She was fantastic, so non-judgemental, but the best thing she did was to give me a referral to our local gym. I have gone from doing zero exercise to going to the gym 3, 4 and sometimes 5 times a week! My original aim was to go twice a week but it's actually quite addictive once you get in to it, especially if you get a good instructor. I was dreading the initial induction as I'm very antisocial and don't like talking to people I don't know but the guy I see is great, very normal, not an over enthusiastic gym bunny!!

I now weigh 13st 4lbs and although I still have a way to go, I really feel that I can do it this time. I have lost weight doing weightwatchers many times over the years but this is the first time that I don't feel like I am constantly watching what I eat. I weigh pasta but that's the only thing I weigh, I limit myself to 2 potatoes and I pile up the veg. I've never been a massive veg fan but I've discovered that a spoonful of the flavoured Light Philadelphia can make any veg palatable!

Keep posting on here, there are loads of interesting and supportive people to keep you going!

Well done for making a start. Like claireep suggests take a look at the NHS 12week plan. I'm actually about to start week 14, it has been really helpful in keeping me on the straight and narrow. It does involve counting calories but that is easy, especially if you use something like the myfitnesspal app to keep count of your calories. My big problem was portion control I was vastly overestimating the correct portion size.

You will get lots of support and encouragement from the members of this community.

I've lost 14.8kg and if I can do it so can you.

I know how you feel, I did the same thing, got on the scales and was mortified. I have been trying for a year to lose weight and only lost 8 lbs.

I've just had the same kind of nasty surprise myself! I've started on the NHS 12 week plan today - it seems like a sensible place to start. Everybody on this forum seems very supportive and full of good ideas - Good Luck!

We all have different reasons for wanting to lose weight - and this is definitely a good place for support whatever the reason :) I'm working towards fitting into a wedding dress that won't make me look like a baked alaska!

I have a daughter whom has just recently come out to me as a transgender and she dresses like a man. There are people out there that possibly will not understand at first but they will get over it. I am not saying you are transgender but you are simply being yourself. So no one has the right to judge you for the way you dress. At least your being honest.

Thank you and the same goes for you, if you ever need to talk about anything I am here. My heart goes out to you having to hide who you are just because of what society thought back then. Thank goodness thing's are changing now. More and more people are changing how they think and by doing so are giving people like you and my daughter a chance at living a more free and open life. I am happy for you truly, that you have finally found the courage in you to be yourself. I hope you sincerely get to enjoy the real you. Best of luck.
