I'm needing help

Can anyone tell me what foods are really cheap and make good meals. I'm desperate to get rid of the weight but I need to give up bread.

Hey, welcome to the forum. Giving up bread is a good start, processed bread (especially white) has no real nutritional value. You could try making soups for lunches, I make it up in batches, put it in little tubs and freeze it. Ensures you've always got a quick healthy meal available! It's also pretty cheap, just vegetables, water and stock cubes. Good luck 🌸

Great, I'm glad you're feeling more positive, there is a great support network here so don't hesitate to post questions or share your journey😊 I'd also recommend downloading an app such as my fitness pal to keep track of your calorie intake. And if you haven't already, take a look at the NHS 12 week plan. I posted a few soup recipes yesterday on a reply to another post, have a read if you like

Just a few ideas 🌸

Thank you I'm going to look at your soup recipes after this. I'm only 50 and last January I had a total knee replacement and it's been a very hard and long recovery and to top it all I've got a bulging disc in my back now so excersizing is really hard. I've gained 2 and a half stone in 15 months, through not working. If I don't do something soon I'm going to be huge then all my surgery will of been for nothing. Thank you for your advice :)

So if I'm 5ft 2in and 14st 5lbs how many calories should I eat a day. I think that's my biggest problem not knowing :)

Sorry I didn't see your second message, well I'm 5foot 3 and started at 14stone2. I eat between 1200 and 1400 calories a day. You can work out your bmi from the NHS bmi calculator. It gives a recommended calorie intake too but I think it's a bit too high for weight loss. Maybe start on 1400 and see how you hey on? 🌸

You're more than welcome😊 I'm 26 but I understand problem knees, I had an acl reconstruction a couple of months ago and the rehabilitation is so long and hard! This is also part of my motivation to lose weight as being overweight puts so much more pressure on those knees. I find static cycling really helps to loosen up the knee and also helps to build up quadriceps that weaken with knee surgery 🌸

I can't cycle I still don't have a full bend even though I've done everything right my scar is still too tight. I have even been back in hospital for manual manipulation and it worked for one day then back to tight again. :)

Aww no that's rubbish. Sorry that it hasn't gone to plan for you! I still have to practice my bend and straighten, twice a day bend as far as I can pulling in with my hands and hold for 30secs and straighten out with heel on a footstool letting the knee overextend. Hurts but it's helping the range of movement which is good. 🌸

If I was a car I'd be scrapped by now. But I'm going to give this weight thing one last shot as I'm desperate;)

You can do it, so far I've lost a stone in the last 5weeks, if I can do it anyone can! It's about sustainable changes to your diet. Cutting out the sugary crap (I found this super hard as I'm an emotional eater but it gets easier I promise), going easy on the starchy carbs (you'll get plenty from vegetables) and filling up on lots of nutritious veg!! Good luck, I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on 🌸

Salad like iceberg - one bag is only 40 cal, add some tomatoes, cucumbers, spring onion(if u like it), some chicken (grilled or boiled) some dressing that is low cal - it fills u up quite good and u can have a huge bowl of it (just make sure it is within the cal that u planned for the meal - 300-400cal )... :) i love it!

Welcome :-) veg is usually pretty cheap especially at end of the day in supermarkets, you can make soups that you can batch up and freeze.

Lol that did make me chuckle. I understand getting to the point of being fed up with your weight i started this at 19st so can understand. Bad relationships always seem to make you gain the most i find, Thankfully im back in control of my life and you can too, take it one day at a time, and surround yourself with positive and motivational people, images, phrases etc whatever works for you. Hope you do well!

This is the place to be Christmascrazy for support and advice. I'm 55 and 5' 3" and have less to lose then you and allow myself 1,500 calories a day. 1lb off a week is my goal as I see this as a lifelong lifestyle plan. It's not just about losing weight but getting control back. Keep in touch as the forum really helps. :)

Fruits and Vegetable in season should be the cheapest.

We have two freezers and stock up when things are on special.

Check all the stores specials

Hello , im not joking today has been amazing. I brought a bag of mixed veg just to try it, blended it up added stock etc and it's fantastic. I'm going to be so happy eating this every day woo hoo THANK YOU

Oh, that egg sounds good, I found 20 for £1.60 at Iceland. But the veg is good too. why not check the price of an individual lettuce? I find that tearing the leaves into small pieces and mashing a hard boiled egg with a tomato is tasty.
