weigh day looming
Good luck with the weigh in today,
fingers crossed dottylady x
Hi Dotty,
I did the 5:2 diet to achieve my target weight and have been able to maintain it since by fasting 1 day a week most of the time and on occasions back to 2 days a week if I have over indulged myself.
Good luck with your first weigh in, but you do need to be a bit patient as you have only done it for one week!
ps. I also find the freedom of not having to stress about what to eat 24/7 liberating....
I wish you well, but this is a very unhealthy way to lose weight. It usually ends up with all the weight going back on, aafter you reach your target. All I am doing is cutting down portions and alreadyII'm losing steadily.
Its actually proven that the 5:2 has lots of health benefits.
I've been on plan for for weeks.. have lost 16lb and blood sugars have never been better and already off my blood pressure meds.
Are you diabetic then? How do you fast for 24 hours, twice weekly, if you are. I would go into hypo & coma if I did this!!!
Yes am diabetic, ur allowed 500 cals a day. I drink lots of water and green tea, throughout the day. I only inject at tea time before my main meal. I really didn't think as a diabetic i could do this diet, but my diabetic consulant, recommended i try it. I have bought books and researched it as i was concerned about hypos. But touch wood starting week 5 and now probs at all.
what have you ate on the fasting days please , so i can have an idea what to do. good luck with the diet
well I've only had 2 fasting days so far but here's what I had.... Thursday breakfast was a sachet of oatso simple with semi skimmed milk and a cup of tea. I just drank water during the day while I was at work. In the evening, after work I had a full pack (200g) ASDA ready to eat Mexican style chicken with rocket, cucumber, spring onions, tomatoes and the whites of 2 boiled eggs followed by an orange. Today I had 1 Weetabix biscuit with 75ml semi skimmed milk and a cup of tea, again water through the day. Evening meal was 1/2 packet of ASDA meat free savoury mince with cabbage, cauli, carrots and swede. I've ate normally on the other 5 days but been careful not to reward myself with unnecessary treats. I get weighed in the morning so until then I don't know how effective its been.
Please don't forget to let us know how you get on!
i am sure you will have good results and we are all hear to help your journey i am thinking of trying 5;2 my self as so far just healthy eating which has lost me 5 pounds
so please keep us posted good luck for tomo and any advice you can give would be most helpful
I'm not very good at the traditional calorie counting way to lose weight, done the slimming groups and yo-yo'd. I've chosen the 5-2 because I don't feel i'm dieting...I know that sounds strange when i'm fasting 2 days a week but as I have a decent breakfast and evening meal I just think of it as a day when I don't have lunch. good luck with your journey
thanks for your help like you tried other ways spent a fortune over 3 yrs at slimming world to be half a stone heavier ,so will try its surpose to be good for your health and i need that good luck and enjoy your journey
Yeah, slimming world was my group for a couple of years but I found it just wasn't my thing, all that clapping! I know the 5-2 will always be controversial but I know a couple of people who've been really successful on it. Good luck
The 'fasting' days are not fasting at all! You are eating meals...fasting means not eating! This is a weird diet. Sounds like the sort of 'diet' that people who don't really want to diet, would use and kid themselves.
Sorry, my opinion. Good luck anyway.
thanks
Hi Margar,
If you read up on the 5:2 diet you will realize that on the 'fast' days around 500 calories worth of food is allowed for women and 600 calories for men. It is surprising how well you can eat on those days with careful planning.....
In Dotty's case she is managing by skipping lunch and having a good breakfast and light dinner.
I understand you have diabetes, so you should speak to your doctor about what is suitable for you.
I can understand why you may think this diet is 'weird', but fasting is very common in other cultures and this idea of eating 3 regular meals was only introduced 200 years ago. There is research indicating that our bodies did not evolve to expect food to be readily available so easily.
Good luck with your diet!
I discussed suitable methods of losing weight with both GP and cardiologist, both of whom strongly advised against fad diets...ie Cambridge, LighterLife, even WW & Slimming world. it would certainly include 5-2.It was impressed on me that dieting, as such, was only short-term. To successfully lose weight AND keep it off, is to change your eating habits FOR LIFE....always smaller portions, on a smaller plate, and healthy choices. Doesn't have to be tasteless food...normal food, but less of it....for the rest of your life! Safer and healthier and successful! I decided to do this one week ago and will stick with it. Try it!
