Dreaded weekend looming

Four and a half days of being really good. I've stayed under or on my daily calorie goal. Even maintained the 5+ a day of fruit and veg.

I'm following the NHS 12 week plan which I think is brill but now Friday evening is creeping steadily closer and my biggest problem is alcohol consumption. I can feel the urge.

I'm trying to concentrate on the plan but then there's is nagging voice in the background saying "go on, just the evening". I know I can't go down that road but the voice is pretty insidious.

I'm hoping that by typing this out it may relieve some of the tension.

Hi, I personally don't think there is anything wrong with having a couple of drinks BUT, you still have to stay within your calorie allowance or you won't lose weight. Try and choose a lower calorie drink. The other danger is, you may be tempted to snack on the wrong choices if you've had a drink or too!

Thank you for your reply. I completely agree and a few evenings this week I've had a small glass of white. But I know I have a drink problem and Friday is kinda hardwired into the system. I've just had a coffee which is a minor triumph in itself.

Caz28, you were so right. 3 late glasses of wine and I was just under my daily calorie limit. 7 Quality Street (left over from xmas) later (and I'm 200+ calories over :( . So yep, alcohol induced weakness prevailed.

Its not an upside as such but I've just guestimated that I'd normally consume about 2500 calories on a Friday evening. Sitting here completely shocked. That would have been a mix of wine, vodka/coke and Crunchy Nut Cornflakes covered in milk, cream and sugar. What an eye opener.

Are you trying to do a dry January? If not I think you need to think about how this is going to work for you longer term. I've cut my drinks to Friday and Saturday only (not easy but been doing it for almost a month) - I'd rather have a drink than a snack so that's not a problem for me - but we're all different and as Caz said drink can lower your resistance to snacks so end you up with a double calorie whammy.

I'm not trying to go dry (even though I'd like to). I'll stick to one goal at a time and if by cutting down my cals it helps me reduce my alcohol intake then brill.

Can't you guys here that voice? :)

I'm the same!

Love my wine on a weekend, which then spirals into a pizza, some chocolate and a chinese takeaway...before I know it it's Sunday I have a raging hangover and only a huge roast dinner will do the trick!

So unfortunately for me I have to cut it out all together to stop the cycle!

DRY JANUARY :/

Every year I do dry January now to get me out of my drinking habits that usually get worse in December where it's any excuse to have a drink and is just becones the norm at xmas...... It does work as its just 1month... but it does reset the cravings for a glass of wine on an evening !

like my drinks, too. not a big drinker, but when I had a long exhausting day, it's natural for me wanting a drink. Guess the only way is to have drinks have less calories (If you are like me, drink every week). Gin and tonic is not bad, I don't have cocktails, luckily my husband doesn't drink, so we don't store large quantity of alcohol at home, just cans so I know exactly how much I drunk.
