Since starting my weight reducing diet I have lost 3.6lbs and am sticking to approx 1200 cals per day as I have seen this as a recommended amount for those females over 65 to kick start a diet. Seems to be working and not too hard to stick to it as long as I have little bread and no potatoes.

As long as it works for you it sounds great! Good luck!

It may depend on how much exercise you do? Giving up bread and potatoes is a good way to lose weight, but keep some healthy natural fat in your diet to make sure you are absorbing vitamins and minerals.

Years ago, I gave up bread, pasta, riz and potatoes. I lost weight but put it back on, plus a lot more, as soon as I started eating properly again. did not work for me.

Different things work for different people. I haven't eaten bread for several years.

Am following NHS plan (use it as nickname). Am 68 and having 1400c a day. Easy does it. I eat well and am not tired at all, on the contrary. I had a small set back last week of: Saturday afternoon get together drinks and fabulous finger food, Sunday cocktail party with canapés followed by a wedding reception and unbelievable meal, and a "sundowner" of drinks, nibbles and sausage sizzle on the Wednesday. I followed NHS advice with making choices, to the best of my ability, considering the type of decadent food..... I think I did well as I am only 7oz above my previous weigh in. My next "do" is in two weeks time so I know I will be ready for it with choices, willpower and can still allow myself some treats and not feel out of place. Life is good.

I am nearly 63 and therefore have a much lower TDEE than a younger woman. I have slowly steadily lost my excess 2 stone by eating normal foods , including choc and wine, but less of them, and calorie counting around 1350 a day and walking 50 minutes, five days per week. I am now at my target weight but I think staying here will be more difficult than losing it!! For my age and height I can supposedly not go over 1650 without gaining weight!

I am 67 and find its a slow weight loss. Still if we can keep going we will get there.
