I've been having my naughty treats forever but know I must give them up. Big roll of fat over my jeans is easy to hide in the winter but will be on show in the summer. Yikes!

Oh my god, we have the same illness. Rollfat , a winter illness that is increasing in all females. I will be very interested to see who gets well the quickest. One medication is no sugar, but, it may need tougher , a nasty med, called excersise. I'm thinking of joining slimmers world. I need plenty of motivation. I would be grateful for any help you could offer. 😃. Hasta la vista,

The best ting is that it changes your way of eating so that you shouldn't put it back on.

I know I need to have a complete change around. It will be hard but I'm determined to do it. I shall base my diet around the healthy thing I do like. Another day for me to be good and I shall really try not to let myself down and everyone who is supporting me now.

I've tried slimming clubs but never stick to the diets. People seem to lose the weight and then put even more back on. I think we will have to take one step at a time and rejoice in our little successes. My one yesterday was buying sweets instead of chocolate. A few calories saved but now it's the 1st March I'm going to try to do better and miss out the yummy sections in supermarkets. ^^

margrete profile image
margrete in reply toeeek1110

I don't understand how buying 'sweets' instead of chocolate can be regarded as a success. Sweets are made of sugar. Chocolate is also made of sugar.

What do you regard as 'yummy'?

Don't think about going on a diet. Eat sensibly. Eat proper food. Eat enough and then stop when you've had enough.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tomargrete

I've been eating chocolate every day for ages and ages. Chocolate is made of fats and sugar. Sweets make me more aware they are just sugar so easier to give up. "Yummy" things are food that are bad for you when you are dieting. There are all sorts of reasons why I binge and sometimes feeling guilty about breaking my diet, replaces the other negative thoughts. My husband is sooooo annoying at times!

I tried all that to it all going back on,,, I was told of a new solution, Give up milk to soya, and or almond milk, higher in calcium, better for you, I did that the first week, I always had the thought that soya, was horrid, but honestly it tastes lovely in my coffee, and I dont need to add sugar, No sweetners they are chemicals and your body stores fat as its not sure how to process it.

Then the next week I gave up bread because it used to make me bloat, and it has no nutritional value, we used to eat it, when we were poor,, they gave it to fill us up. All the additives to preserve it again stores fat, (makes me fart)

I was told to stop counting calories, just eat the rainbow of veg, and nuts pulses meat, fish brown rice. eggs. Cut out sweet things, and eat fruit and natural sugars when you have a sweet tooth. Again before you were having a sweet hit, and the more you have of them the more your body craves!! it. at first tongue in cheek, I thought it was a bloomin fad again.

But honestly I thought I had alzhemers my brain was forgetful lack on concentration , didnt want to do anything just wanted to sleep. Anxiety not wanting to go out. I felt like crap, and just felt I was preparing for old life.

Any one would tell you I looked ill white as a ghost.

Guess what happened, I stayed awake more,, and my thoughts got clearer,, And I slept through the night, I know that sounds silly, but at night would often wake up to 5 times a night. Before I didnt have enough energy to go to the gym, The first time I went swimming I swam for a whole hour without stopping. Then did two hours the next time, I used to get out of breath going to my car!!

The greatest thing of all was I was loosing inches,,, 4 off my waist first week, and now I have lost 10 lbs, and loads of inches,,, my daughter is stoked as she was on this plan and got down to her own normal size and lost stacks of weight. Its called clean eating.. I eat as much as I feel I need.

Look for reciepy online, I did sweet potateos in chuncks, and butternut with a little water, onions, I cooked white beans and some others with veg flavour cubes. and a bit of butter on top. Yummy it was delish, I eat that 3 days running. When I go to mac donlads I have crispy chicken with salad,, honestly I feel sooo much better I never want to touch that stuff anymore!!! I used to fall asleep every time I eat certain foods made me feel sleepy.... is this why people are getting a fat nation, because we eat so many foods with so many colours and chemicals our bodies just cant process it all so stores it as fat,,,,,,, just a thought.... try it,,, it doesnt cost anything to join,,, no membership,,,, just lovely food

I have read your post with interest, and have much the same opinion.

I have also radically altered my shopping basket with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, pulses, fish and occasional meat. From a boring meat and two veg diet I now have colourful plates of veggy meals. Have you tried soya single cream by Alpro. (There may be other makes); Very few cals and tasty, delicious with fruit for Sunday Pud. And our weekly shopping bill has reduced inspite of buying exciting wholesome foods.

In addition, since I have stopped eating between meals (and hence far too much and unnecessarily) I also feel brighter, sleeping better at night and strangely have very little cravings.

So pleased I join the plan and this forum.

I know its amazing how your cravings dropped. The person used to laugh and try to tease me, with cakes, and he would drop off to sleep in a min, I said to him, no thanks I would rather feel like this, than like you who sleeps all weekend, and starts work again on monday. He is diabetic, type 2,, they say in cases this way of eating as nature intended, could do away with his type 2 diabetes,, I was eating a rice stir fry, with veg the colours of the rainbow, and I gave him some, he polished it off. Now usually he hates my cooking,, lol hes a chef,, but as he has noticed my improvement I have started giving him what I eat as hes too tired to cook when he gets home. usually those prepared meals that are tastless and not very filling he used to have,, think of all the chemicals that are in that to make it last longer on the shelf.

ohh yuck,, what we were taught to do by the media.

My problem is that I can't cook so hubby does it all. I know you are all thinking "of course you can cook". No, I even burn toast in a toaster. My husband has gone off cooking so we do have a lot of M&S ready meals. Yes, I burn those as well. I do love salad so will have lots of that even though hubby doesn't like it.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

I lost my memory, I remember the family used to come round for a feast, now I can burn boiled potatoes. I can and have burnt rice before, god it smells. Also cheese, gosh that can set light. and it smells deadly.

Anyway, get a timer, with our heads all foggy, we forget. Start looking for simple stuff to start with, its all about practise,, you will make mistakes, and you will learn from them.

Theres a lot of processed foods prepacked to get the food to last longer.

Your using a computer, look for a idiots guide to cooking, im not being insulting, its what it would be called. and see what pops up.. Then go shopping for the things you need to try cook it, oh never leave a pan that is cooking.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tocoatpin

I have tried cookbooks etc but kept setting off the smoke alarms. Timers go off but I get distracted by something and off the alarms go. I also worry that something isn't cooked enough so end up overcooking it. The scone I tried defrosting in the microwave glowed for 4 hours in the garden as it was that burnt. By the way... my dad was a fire officer. He would not be proud!

It's been a good day today as I've had 1,800 calories and no chocolate or sweets. For the past 5 yrs I've been eating 400 to 500 calories of those a day.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

Throw out calories!!! it doesnt work,,, you will put on the weight all over again and more!! go to your local and say I need help learning to cook, now point me in the right direction, or keep struggling your get it in the end. When you eat what nature intended, your lack of concentration and memory will improve!! mine has I seriously thought I had alzhimers.

I've been eating nearly non stop since I gave up my job a year ago due to health reasons. Result was 20lbs on. Yikes! It's time to stop and I have been strong today. I like skimmed milk and have numerous cups of tea throughout the day..... without biscuits now.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

Try to limit tea to 2-4 cups a day, and have almond milk, you might find you dont fancy sugar with it. Then drink water or those fruit teas, aldi is cheaper

all of us do not drink enough water, it makes it harder to loose weight..

Another tip have porridge aldi fruit one , in the morning and add a spoon of flax seed. Its a natural source of omega 3 gluten free, it helps with the clarity of the mind and hormone imbalances. Oh yes with loosing weight too. And its good for you!! Since talking it I have increase how much Im loosing.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tocoatpin

I have been drinking water today and I only weak tea with just a few grains of sugar and skimmed milk. Porridge is not my thing but I will try it again so thank you for the tip.

coatpin in reply toeeek1110

I like those fruit water, with bubbles, I know,,,, but I hate water, now try soya milk its lovely, in tea,,, my daughter goes yummy,,, whats in this,,,? she was surprised and said its yummy. no sugar, as you will only crave it,,, theres enough sweetness in soya

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tocoatpin

Thank you. I'll look out for it the next time I go shopping.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

aldi, morrisons, and sainsburys, unsweetened. aldi cheapest about £1 although aldi cheapest. Its well worth the money, for how it makes you feel long term. 6 weeks I have lost 6-7 inches, and 10lbs. When your eating cleaner and not processed foods, you tend to save money, less to carry home. remember no pasta.

eeek1110 profile image

Well done on your weight loss! I am trying to change my eating patterns to start off with as I really have over indulged. Cutting my portions down and eating healthy snacks is the first step for me.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

Just eat as much as you feel you need, with all the veg and other stuff, its not about cal counting. Your portion size will ajust as your having healthy veg the colours of a rainbow. Dont use flour, any snack fruit bars you should make yourself as then you know what is in them.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tocoatpin

I always fail when I calorie count. We went to a coffee shop today and all I had was coffee. Great big fat creamy cakes and I was turned off by them. Not like me at all! Little steps at a time seems to be working. What do you have for breakfast?

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

dont have the long life ones as they do have additives, to keep them longer. I had a pear, and lunch I was out, so had a box or raisins to nibble, till I get home. Yeh dont hit your self,,, when you start feeling the results, it will help you to keep wanting to feel that way, and the old way, wasnt nice at all. if you look on venus,,, or clean eating it will give you ideas on what to shop and meals,, to taste. Theres not much in milk coz they have processed it all away.

Penel profile image
Penel in reply tocoatpin

I agree with you about eating real food, cutting out sugar and bread, but soya and almond milk do not contain more calcium than cow's milk, unless it has been added. If you read the list of contents in soya and almond milk, they are full of additives which may not be healthy.

Cows milk certainly doesn't agree with a lot of people. I can't tolerate lactose and now drink 'fruit teas'.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toPenel

there is nothing in milk it has been over processed theres very little left in it.

Thank you. I do admire your mind set and I shall take small steps at a time. One of my problems is that my hubby is trying to put on weight as he lost 2 stone all of a sudden. He is just 10 stone now.

Having naughty treats for ever? Well, if you've been having them 'for ever' then they're not a treat but something you've come to rely on.

What are these things you describe as 'naughty treats'?

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply tomargrete

My daughter used to nag me,,,, dogs have treats,,, if its such a treat, why are you feeling so bad and putting rubbish into your body,,,, eat good stuff what nature intended. She did have a point, but I found If I cheated, I would either get tried, or I would crave!!!! sweets stuff or cakes,,, now it just doesnt bother me,,, and the results out way the pain I was in.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tocoatpin

I suppose I've been treating chocolate etc as a reward rather than a treat for me. The badger has had the treats tonight as I put all my biscuits out for him.

coatpin profile image
coatpin in reply toeeek1110

chocolate cant be a reward, its eating lard, done with flavours to make it taste nice, imagin it with hairs going through it, and your eating it, a lump a lard fat, oh yuck. Your addicted to it, Its keeping you fat!!! that lard is stored in your fat cells, because the type of lard it is, its hard to get rid of it, your miserable coz you are fat...

OlsBean profile image

I each chocolate, 90% Cocoa normally, 100% when I can afford it, phenomenal stuff, really good for you.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply toOlsBean

I eat the whole bar of dark chocolate so it's best for me to avoid chocolate altogether.

Hard to break a habit of a lifetime but I will do it. What should I eat when I get a craving?

miopus profile image
miopus in reply toeeek1110

Have you tried crabsticks or an apple or an orange ? The other thing you could try when you have a craving is doing exercise - eg situps or starjumps. I have had to stop having biscuits in the house, due to cravings.

eeek1110 profile image
eeek1110 in reply tomiopus

I am a fussy eater but I will try to eat apples, grapes or melon more often. Exercise is a dirty word for me! I love gardening so will find it easier to diet then. In the meantime I'll walk to the postbox instead of driving there. It's not that far away and I'm always posting letters.

eeek1110 profile image

Good point there! Another treat has been a glass of wine or two so that is off the menu too. I do tend to eat more when I'm tipsy.

I know the feeling, never had a muffin top before, but it's suddenly there, had a good weekend with food, bad weekend with the wine that accompanied it. No more socialising , until I'm trim.
