Just saw the first episode of Horizon the other night.
It seems we are categorised into 3 groups according to our behaviour :- 1) Feasters 2) Cravers and 3) Emotional Eaters. Depending on which group you belong to determines which diet is most appropriate.
I am going to catch up tonight and subsequently watch the last episode.

I watched part of the first one last night (after catching up with Broadchurch), I can't help wondering though how many more Feasters they would have if they had replaced the half the Sushi on the conveyor belt with things like Fish and Chips, Pizza and Ice-Cream
Hehehe. Yes, I would have gone hungry too. There were a lot of assumptions. It's quite a good programme but it is still set to make for good TV. It's started a lot of comment on this site. I have heard of some of the items from other sources. I shall watch the rest of the series.
It may be worth looking at this to work out the diet you are most likely to stick to.
When I did the test , I was a 70% 'Constant Craver' and 20% 'Feaster' and 10% 'Emotional' so the recommended diet from this programme was Intermittent Dieting.
Luckily, I have been following the 5:2 diet so I tend to look for good filling low calorie meals for my fast days and then eat normally on the other five days. My overall calorie intake for the week is reduced due to the reduced calories on the fast days (Monday and Thursday) and I was able to loose the weight I wanted to and generally been able to maintain that weight since. On other diet regimes I always put the weight back on when I stopped the 'diet' as I didn't really change my 'lifestyle'.
The reason Monday seems to be a good fast day for me is that it was to allows me to deal with any excesses I may have had over the weekend and psychologically gives me a fresh start to motivate myself for the week.
My wife's results were not as clear. She was 45% 'Constant Craver', 29% 'Feaster' and 26% Emotional'. So it is difficult to work out which diet is most suitable for her. Also, she felt she would answer some of the questions differently, as her mood changes, especially at certain times of the month.
I have been following the 5:2 diet (apart from Christmas!) and the weight is coming off. My problem is I become a 'constant craver' after drinking (any) alcohol. Like SurreyMan, I fast on a Monday, so restrict my drinking to the weekend. Might try abstinence to see what happens.
