Static for 2 years!

2 years ago I went from 21 st to 17 . I have been stuck for two years, always failing ! Clearly despite my protestations I eat bad drink too much re exercise. Now wanting to lose 4st for daughters wedding next August . 16st by Xmas ?! Need help support as I eat when bored sad or happy !

Cut out the sugar in both processed foods and drinks. Read, watch and listen to "ihealthtube" re related health issues, there is a ton of information out there. Add in as much whole natural foods as possible ie fruit, veg, nuts and seeds. Eat loads of good natural food, ideally raw or as close to raw as possible, that way you keep all the vitamins and nutrients in them as not boil them to oblivion! Read about the health properties in food, it will inspire you.

I have got rid of my bursitis in my hip, inflammation in my neck and face and most importantly around my gum-line, which I have had sensitivity for over 20 years. The trick - as above - plus I checked out what foods had anti inflammatory properties in them. Within the top 10 were grapefruit, avocado and walnuts. I thought, I like all of those and can put them into my diet on a regular basis. It took 4 - 5 weeks before the bursitis disappeared. I was determined not to use paracetamol or ibuprofen, as with any drug there is a knock on effect and I wanted to test out to see if I could get rid of the pain naturally. Lo and behold, I did. I am delighted. Obviously it took longer, but I now have no pain or aches at all. I feel as though I have won the health lottery!

The positives to eating whole natural foods are far more than losing weight, it is regaining your health and losing all the negatives that go with being overweight. Read, become informed about what the food manufacturers put into our food to make it more desirable. check out "Food Matters" and "Forks over Knives" "Phillip Day" health journalist, "Ty Bollinger" "Mike Adams - The Health Ranger". Good luck on your quest, don't give up, your health is worth it! I have also lost over 2 stone. You can lose 4 stone by next August, it is quite well within your capabilities. You will begin to feel better when you eat good healthy food. Do things gradually and then your brain, body and stomach have time to adjust. Don't go hungry, but avoid sugar, sugary products and white flour products. Read and become informed. Good luck.

When you feel able to, start some exercise, and then just gradually build up from wherever you start. I started cycling 1.5 miles, now I'm up to 20 miles and I love it. the fact that I can keep going for that long and I am not exhausted. I could keep going, but time constraints! I feel good that I am now pain free and getting fitter all the time.

Cutting down on sugar and carbs should help you shift the weight. Avoiding processed foods and eating fresh foods also is very good for your health, as PJS has said, but I find that my body cannot cope with a lot of raw food.

Going vegetarian suits some people, but you need to make sure you get a good supply of protein and vitamin B12.

the right frame of mind plus goal is vital. Put a photo up of how you were before weight loss and one of now, on the fridge. Also find something to do with your hands that is quite relaxing. Some like knitting, I prefer Candy Crush. Anything to take your mind off food. Also don't keep snacks in the house, you can't eat what's not in the cupboard. If you have other kids at home try and buy them healthier snacks too and pick treats for them that you're not so keen on. Brushing teeth is also a goid trick and drink plenty of water. All the best

Good advice already. I'm a great believer in identifying the problem as a first step to finding a solution. You've said it 'I eat when bored, sad, happy...' So any mood, any situation, brings one response - eat! That reminds me of a joke the Jews make about themselves but really, it's serious.

So eating alleviates boredom. It makes you happy if you're sad. If you're happy....See how ridiculous this sounds?

I've found from experience that eating is NOT the solution to any problem or any situation.

For some people, putting a time-line in place works e.g. Christmas, a wedding, etc. For others, they lose weight for that specific occasion and then go back to how they were.

You did very well to get to where you are now, from where you were. How did you do it? Maybe go back to square one and do what you did before.

Refined sugar is the big baddie, worse for us than anything.

If you have maintained that weight loss and are still nearer to 17 st than 21 then you haven't failed just ground to a halt.

You need to find distractions from food, question yourself every time you want to eat " am I genuinely hungry?" and try to keep your hands busy, knitting, crafting, painting all good for keeping your hands busy whilst stimulating good brain chemicals.

4 stone in 9 months is doable. Check out the bmi calculator on the nhs choices site, it will give you a calorie range to stick to, the lower end will give you 2lb a week loss if you are totally honest with your food. Obviously if you cheat, forget or under estimate then it won't work as well, but if you really want to then you can.

You might find it helpful to try to work out what you gain from staying larger, sometimes there is a deep down reason why we are scared of losing weight, or where we don't see ourselves as being a thin person. Personally I think my fat makes me feel safe from the attentions of the opposite sex, I didn't like it when I was slimmer and had constant attention from rude and crude men, so whenever I am a bit sad or scared I tend to gain weight and struggle to lose it. Once you have worked out if there is something in the background that might be hindering you, you can work on that, especially if it is down to low self esteem, and feeling you don't deserve to be slim, or that you are scared of other people's reactions. Often when we can lose the forst bit but get stuck half way it is a psychological block that keeps us overweight.

I wish you luck, I too have weddings next year, both my sons, and the mother of the bride in the first one is a foot shorter than me and about 12 stone less at least!!! So good luck and maybe we will both be shopping in trendy shops for our wedding outfits
