What does everyone think of a low carb diet. I need a quick start so I can see results. If bread and potatoes and pasta etc are cut from a diet that should surely yield good results. How long could one sustain a carb free diet?

While a low-carb diet is possible, I don't think a carb-free diet is (unless you eat only meat and eggs and nothing else). Most food contain some carbs.
A low-carb diet can probably be sustained for quite some time, depending on your lifestyle (if you exercise a lot you can't cut carbs extremely low). As long as you ensure you don't skimp on essential nutrients including antioxidants and fiber, you will probably lose weight quite fast.
Just keep in mind that overall calories is still key. Even if you cut bread, potatoes, pasta - you could still consume a lot of calories through other foodstuffs!
Low carb will see results quick but most people that use this type of diet regains their weight within 12months. It's not a sustainable way of eating as is your typical blast quick fix diet. You could use it for 1-3 months depending on how you feel, but you will feel lethargic and low in energy as is the reason most can't sustain. For a low carb diet try and hit 20% of your calorie intake or one portion of carbs a day. This is stil extremely difficult to do.
What. Is important is that you realise You lose weight from energy deficit and that it did not take 1 week to put on all your weight and it won't take 1 week to get it off. If your after 10lb loses in 2 weeks then your kidding yourself and should be aiming for 1-2lbs weight loss per week. Iv lost 10lbs in 6 weeks and I play badminton 6 -16 hours a week at a very high level. Hopefully this shows you how difficult true fat loss is not just water weight.

A low carb diet has worked really well for me. I've lost about 13 kilos and kept it off. I don't regard it as a fad diet, and it's certainly the way everyone us,ed to lose weight before the idea of "low fat" came along. You may need to cut down slowly, to give your body time to adjust. It depends how low you want to go. I have no loss of energy.
It's a good idea to cut out the bread, pasta and breakfast cereals because they are processed carbs, but perhaps keep something like ordinary or sweet potato. It depends on how active you are.

I stopped eating bread as I felt I was bloated after eating it and I lost 9 lbs within 2-3 weeks without dieting. So it may be worth a try. Good luck
