Loose skin?: I'm worried about lose skin... - Weight Loss Support
Loose skin?
Don't watch the Youtube videos!! I've lost 16kg since Jan and no skin issues here. I have been doing plenty of exercise which I reccommend!!
Kez, you worry too much! If you exercise and take it slowly loose skin is not likely to be a problem. I see from one of your previous posts you are only just over 11 stone so you are not massively overweight. Loose skin tends to only affect people who lose many, many stones.
I was worried about loose skin as well but I decided to join a gym. I had 14 stone to lose and I have so far lost 1 stone 12 lbs and skin is toning up as I excercise and as an added bonus my fitness level has improved. It obviously doesn't have to be a gym, walking or swimming, pilates I have found them all good exercises that help to tone you up as you lose weight. Good luck in your journey.
One thing to think about if this bothers you - moisturiser. I've heard it recommended for pregnant women so the skin retains elasticity and rebounds after the birth. In theory it should work the same, if the skin is in good condition it will tighten up as the weight drops off. (I'm only guessing here, I have no evidence or anything)
Attend to your hydration needs as it is a crucial component of maintaining skin elasticity. Eat protein-rich foods such as cottage cheese, milk, legumes, tofu, beans, seeds, nuts, and fish all contain collagen and elastin forming components, as well as oils to help maintain healthy skin. A There are many skin tightening lotions and body wraps that are available in the market today. Collagen and elastin are two compounds that are found in the specialized skin tightening creams that you can buy over the counter. Regular application is bound to help get rid of saggy skin.
The most common cause of sagging skin is aging. As you age, your skin loses the collagen and elastin, your skin's supportive connective tissue, that make it look soft, plump and youthful. To avoid skin lose you should avoid rapid weight loss. According to the U.S. Geological Society, your body is composed of approximately 60 percent water -- so it should come as no surprise that the elasticity of your skin is strongly dependent on its hydration levels. In order to prevent skin lose you should maintain adequate hydration. To tighten and make your skin firm you can also use body wraps.
