The NHS weight loss programme? Calorie counting primarily as far as I can recall. But if you are using something like MyFitnessPal or one of the other free online resources, the fat content will be there too if you want to track that.

Count calories. MyFitnessPal is brilliant and free. It's an app for your phone or website.

As portion control has been my problem, I try to ensure that the fat content of my food is my priority, so far it's working ok but eventually when necessary I shall have to calorie count which I hate.Good Luck!

I Never cal counted when I lost weight and still don't do it now and I have maintained the weight I have lost for 6 years now. I see cal counting as nothing but boring and I don't think it should have to be done if you eat healthy and exercise plenty

Calorie counting is important but don't let it get to you - its easy to do. It goes back to that healthy balanced diet. If you include plenty of fruit and veg - remember fruit has lots of natural sugar and can be higher in cals than some "junk".

There's an accounting thing here. What goes in and doesn't come out goes ON. Try to avoid processed food and cake, pastry, biscuits. They contain fat and flour and sugar - not a good combination. You need not depress yourself by giving up everything you like.

what a load of rubbish about what you said about fruit and veg and you should not have any fatty food while on a diet and after a diet you shoulden't really have them as well. Its about changing your life and not putting all the weight back on by going back to eating junk. Fruit and veg is good for you and if it has sugar in it so what its still better for you than a chocolate bar or a cake and you should have 5 fruit and veg a day.

You seem to have misunderstood lisa11 as you say more or less what I did in all 3 of your comments.

One of the reason fad diets "fail" is because when people get to the target weight they go back to the old ways. There are too many possible lifestyle changes to list here, but surely it stands to reason although we need sugar - and a little fat - there's plenty in natural food without selecting for it (like those doughnuts everyone seems to like and the chocolate and cake you mention)

There are folk who need to keep scores, and I agree it can be difficult and demoralising.

And as a ps, diabetics like me MUST avoid lots of fruit as even natural sugars go way too high for us.

yes we may need tiny amount of fat and sugar but one - two small treats a week is really all you should have not one or two every day or loads. You need to limit fat and treats should be kept as treats not to be had all the time. No wonder the uk is big every where you go you see fat people not a nice sight. smelly clothes fat belly hanging out looking like they never had a bath ewwww puts off ever wanting to be big again no thanks.

Hehehe. Agreed :D

I bet you don't agree really but never mind not going to loss sleep over it.

Eat healthy small portions mixed with plenty of exercise none of this cal counting shit and you will loss weight. A diet can be hard enough without cal counting making it even harder

Jump in the deep-end of calorie counting, or tiptoe in the shallows, adopt lifestyle changes first and calorie-counting later?
