It's not just about calories. It can be affected by the kind of food you eat.

You need to be eating the most nutritious food you can. From my point of view that means not too many carbohydrates, make sure the ones you choose are high fibre, and that you have cut out any foods with added sugar. Good quality protein is also very important.

Perhaps try keeping a food diary to make sure that you keep an eye on how much and the kind of food you eat.

Good luck Croton.

I hear you! I weigh about the same as you. 3 weeks ago I started a food diary and now I write down everything I eat and I write the calories next to it. I try to keep my calories to 1100 (I am only 5ft 2). I am eating very low sugar and low carb/ GI foods. Also eating coconut oil instead of butter or marg. and taking raspberry ketones. I have lost about 4lbs in 4 weeks. You just have to stick to it, it's such a slow process. I know it sucks, just think how nice it will be at your goal weight! X

Just be aware that 14 portions of carbs is for those very active, athletic people, and so could be too much for you. Also, you don't say how tall you are and therefore your body could go into starvation mode if you are exercising and burning off more calories than you are eating. For instance, you say you are on 1400 cals a day, if your exercise uses 400cals, that only leaves your body 1000cals to work on. Yes, you may lose weight but you might not be eating enough to continue to lose it - sounds weird but its true.

I belong to a weightloss site weightlossresources.co.uk which has a full database of exercises with average calories they burn, and an extensive food database. I log all my food and my exercise (although I'm not into exercise really) and this helps me keep an eye on everything. I'm Type 2 diabetic as well and so I watch my carbs, I allow 50g per meal of carbs and 65g per day in case I need to have a snack or as a treat on special occasions.

Losing weight isn't easy but eat everything in moderation, exercise and eat non-processed foods as much as possible, but don't deprive yourself. Nothing worse than totally cutting out the food you enjoy most, just be aware that too much of it won't help you get to your goal.

I have been losing weight by following the program Phen375 has. Phen375 is a weight loss supplement. So, I take that, but they also include diet plans and exorcise videos that you get when you purchase the supplements. There is more information at goo.gl/f8eyvz There is a lot of info there, so you can if it is for you or not.

Best of Luck

try some protein before each meal and make sure you get 105 gms a day. tuna is good but only 3x;s a week. You need to read food labels really well for this diet...and snack of fruit, vegetables protein or fibre 75 to 100 cal., twice a day.

Have you been tested for thyroid problems? There are other things that can cause weight to stay rather than go. Please get your doctor to run some tests to check your thyroid and you may have cushing's disease. Hope this helps!!! xxx Mitzi

Have your GP checked your thyroid? If not, it would be wise to check it as this can sometimes be an issue. Otherwise, I think a lot of the advice given above are good. Hang in there.

Hi Croton,

By far the most usual reason for people not losing weight is that they are actually eating more than they realise they are. For example - and this sort of this is staggeringly common - they "count" the calories of every meal they eat at home, but ignore the full-fat milk lattes, or the drinks and nibbles when they go out socialising, or the bars of chocolate in the office drawer, or whatever.

Again and again, people will say they're only eating XYZ calories, but when you really analyse it, it turns out they're eating significantly more, sometimes a great deal more.

If you're lack of weight loss isn't due to some factor like that, then I would suggest you talk to your GP or Practice Nurse and ask them what help they may be able to provide, either directly themselves, or refer you on towards.

There are other reasons too and as your weight loss is controlled by hormones, issues with your endocrine system (e.g. thyroid) can significantly change the weight loss processes.
