I had exercise on referral after having pleurisy. It was basically free gym membership, with an adviser plus free heart rate monitor. I would take it again now if I could but I'm no longer eligible! It was excellent.

Do you mean you've been on a diet but you're gaining rather than losing?

I agree, I had exercise on referral, after a relapse. I was on steroids to get me walking again, using the physio and the exercise I coped with the steroids and didn't put on any weight then began losing it quite a lot. It depends on your personal trainer but I loved it xxx

I live in Solihull, near to Birmingham and when I went to my doctor and told her that i was "statistically obese" , I think that an alarm bell rang. She then referred me to "Healthy Minds" I don' know if this is a local program or nationwide. I had access to a dietitian once a month (weekly was too frequent for me). I had physio/exercise in the water classes at the local swimming pool for the price of an admission ticket (pensioner £2.30) and I saw a psychologist 6 times to help me get the right attitude towards dieting and image. I have lost 18 lbs since I started last year. The support was just amazing and the results - fantastic. I am disabled and, therefore, unable to do much exercise. So the weight loss has been very slow. I am now a dress size smaller and delighted with the result. I want to lose another 1/2 stone or thereabouts. At my age, I don't want to look haggard with loads of droopy skin ! Some of my tips for all of you guys and gals are: a) keep busy. b) don't beat yourself up if you slip from the diet. We're all human after all. FORGET IT. DO NOT GIVE UP. and start again. c) make a meal plan - it's VITAL for me. d) heat up a small glass of semi-skimmed milk (50cals). It certainly stems the hunger "pains" and, finally d) when you start feeling peckish - go have a shower or wash your hair - you can't eat under running water . . . (do I hear "Who can't ? . .) or give yourself a pedicure/manicure/pamper.

Lots of luck.

p.s. put pictures of who you'd like to look like all over the place . . . fridge, bathroom, wardrobe door,

avoid foods high in saturated fats, since consuming a diet high in this type of fat could increase your risk of having high cholesterol and heart disease over time.

Saturated fat is not the problem. bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f6340
