Hi Amna
Well done for taking the first step. You need to log every little thing you eat - even if you 'taste' when cooking. I use My Fitness Pal (myfitnesspal.com) - it has most foods I eat already calculated, so it is easy to keep track of the calories you are eating. If you have a smartphone you can also scan barcodes and it gives you the calories of the item.
Allow yourself to have 'treats' - you may just need to modify what they are. I have yoghurt coated raisins (133 cals) if I fancy some chocolate in the evening - nice and sweet but it comes as a controlled portion.
Drink plenty of liquid but be careful about the hidden calories, so try to go for diet or low sugar drinks (watch out for flavoured waters - some are not low calorie as I found to my cost).
nhs.uk/livewell/loseweight/... has good tips and a 12 week plan - recommends 1400 calories for women (men 2000 I think but that would need to be confirmed)
The NHS Choices is a great thing to use as a base - has some great ideas.
nhs.uk/change4life/Pages/me...
has some good recipes, also I use the Hairy Bikers diet book.
Lots of support on this site. Good luck.
