Getting ready for Summer - and the rest of my life!

After weeks of reading everyone else's comments I feel inspired today to get cracking and halting my ever upwards spiral into bigger sizes. The blog about someone's 'big belly' caught my eye, made me smile and has spurred me on. I am thoroughly fed-up with nothing fitting and feeling tired.

This is yet another 'Day 1 of a new diet - but this time there will be a day 2 and 3 and 4 etc. I'm not introducing lots of exercise yet - one thing at a time.

My BMI is around 29 and I'm 13 stone. Here goes..............

Day 1 and still on track!!

I'm using the free 'My Fitness App' on my iPod for calorie counting - it makes it quite fun and easy to keep track and I've set a target of 1-2 lbs a week which lets me have about 1300 calories (for a female). The App counts all your calories and you can see what's left at the end of the day for a treat.

For recipes I'm using the NHS site which has a lovely recipe chooser which creates a shopping list automatically - perfect for me as I get fed up thinking of meal ideas.

Hi salibet,

Oh No! It's not day one of 'another diet'!

It's the first day of the rest of your life - your life of taking control and managing your weight, your eating and your exercise/activity.

It's about swopping those old habits - the ones that made you overweight - for new healthy and helpful ones. It's about changing your relationship with food.

And it's very much NOT about coming to the end of a "diet" and then a few months later or so having put all the lost weight back on again!

And the rewards are terrific. Just imagine, if you can, what moving around and doing things in a lighter body feels like, let alone what it looks like.

I really cannot put into words how different it feels to be in a body that is 20 kgs lighter than it was at the turn of this year. It's great!

Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. It's really good to see everyones blogs popping into my Inbox to keep me going.

I find weekends the hardest time to resist rubbish food choices - probably as I have open access to my kitchen/ food on offer whilst out and about/cinemas etc.

Work days are comparatively easy as there is structure and I take a packed lunch.

I've decided that I'm never going to be able to avoid all tempatation at weekend - especially a few drinks - it is so ingrained in me that it's a time for treats - BUT - the flip side is there's much more opportunity to get some quality exercise.

I've pumped up the bike tyres and found some lights and even an old basket for the front - so I'm all set and last night I walked from 6pm til 8pm - a double whammy of excercising and not sitting on the sofa wanting to snack! Slept well too!
