PCOS and insulin resistance

Hi

I'm new, first post.

I've had issues with a raised Hba1c for many years. After asking over and over, as I'm healthy weight and eat well, could it be linked to any other health condition, and being told no, finally after much research I've been diagnosed with PCOS.

I've seen a specialist as I'm struggling with increased facial hair as well as raised hba1c (44- pre diabetic) despite a healthy diet etc.

she said they don't tend to prescribe metformin for pre diabetes/PCOS, only if they want to look at regulating periods for fertility reasons, which metformin can do. However I'm not trying to conceive and do not want children.

I currently have the contraceptive implant which shes recommended I have removed and begin taking Marvelon to help with hair growth. But what about the increased hba1c? I'm literally terrified of becoming diabetic. It makes me so anxious. Hence being up at 5.30am writing this.

Advice and experience very welcome. Thank you

I’m not an expert but I’m replying because no one else has. I think there are a few things that can help with insulin resistance that aren’t drugs. For example inositol, magnesium, cinnamon. Plus also exercising more especially following a meal, getting enough sleep etc. My daughter rarely had a period till she took inositol so it’s well worth trying if you haven’t already. Don’t worry, I’m sure that you can find ways to manage it with lifestyle. Some things might work better than others for you. There’s lots of sensible information out there including on this website.
