Have you tried slimming world or weight watchers? They are good support groups for weight loss.
Can I ask what metaformin does please? I was diagnosed with PCOS but was told there was no medication for it
Look at smartfertility website - Kym's pcos diet plan is excellent (and if you are on Facebook they do a free 30 day challenge too to get you kick started). You need to follow a low GI diet and avoid all white carbs and as much sugar as poss as both these make the symptoms ten times worse.
Were you tested for insulin resistance prior to being put on metformin as it is primarly a diabetes drug - is their diabetes in your family? I went on the combined contraceptive when I was 15 and it made life so much easier as I could lose weight on it and it kept a lot of the pcos symptoms at bay.
How were you diagnosed?
Hi I too was diagnosed very early on too. Tried the pill to help with symptoms which seemed to only help on other areas (skin & hair) I’ve then tried ovarian drilling, reflexology, acupuncture the works. Some helped a little with the emotional side of things but I then found a mindfulness app called headspace. This helped massively (although I didn’t realise it at the time!) I soon felt calmer and able to tackle things head on. A friend then told me about positive affirmations and I combined the two and felt stronger than I ever had. After trying everything I thought I’d give it a go and I’m glad I did.
In regards to metformin a Gynae put me on this at first it really didn’t suit me and I wasn’t a fan so stupidly stopped. Only years later to find I had diabetes type 2 due to endocrine issues Pcos. I then went back on it and started to move more. Diets unfortunately didn’t work for me the only thing that ever has is moving more. Started small then found I enjoyed “me” time and built it up. Mentally I felt better, I lost weight and my symptoms were better controlled.
Don’t worry about what everyone else says, it’s lack of understanding that’s all, do what’s right for you. Be kind to yourself and take control. It is hard at the start but I promise it will definitely be worth it!! Good Luck!
