Hi everyone I’m 26 and have known that I’ve had PCOS since I was about 15 but my symptoms started as soon as I started my cycle at 12. I rarely had periods, I’ve got thin hair and my skin is uncontrollable.
I’ve been on different combined pills since I was about 14, primarily to control my skin. I don’t have a break in taking the pill either, because if I do then it breaks out and becomes infected.
However, last year I became vegan and for the majority of this time I’ve been getting monthly breakthrough periods, even whilst continuously taking the pill, and my skin is a lot clearer.
I desperately want to come off of the pill anyway, but wondered if anyone else had experienced a change in their symptoms after changing their diet?
I’m too scared to stop taking the pill at the moment because I’m concerned that my skin might break out and that I won’t be able to control it again.

Diet can have an affect even when on the pill. It took me years to find out which food had negative effect on my skin.
I won't lie to you after coming off the pill your skin will break out and it might take a while before it gets better. With a proper diet and maybe touch of certain herbs you might be able to get to a satisfactory level.
The pill will mask the pcos symptoms hugely, I have been on and off it for 30 years as I gain weight when I come off it plus other symptoms, I have been lucky that i dont have skin issues.
It may be worth changing combined pill to see if one suits you better (will take 3 months to see a difference tho and you may well spot in that time so dont think the worst).
I dont know a huge amount about a vegan diet, could it be something that you are now missing, it may be worth upping your iron as obviously meat is high in iron so you could be lacking in that area which can affect your periods, we can also be prone to lacking in Vitamin D as well.
Hi not so much of a diet for me but after coming off the pill I had regular periods for 3 months then back to square one every 3-4 months I’d have a period I lost 10% of my body weight I’m still overweight but my periods are regular !
