Hey,

I came off the pill (microgynon) in December to try for a baby. I had the withdrawal bleed after but nothing since. My gp sent for for an ultrasound scan and that confirmed pcos. She says nothing can be done till I've been actively trying for 1 year without conceiving. I'm seeing a gynaecologist tomorrow to get more clarity and treatment options. I have gained like 5kg since coming off the pill and it does not want to come off. I'm wanting come advice for what to expect/ask for medication wise with some success stories please

Thanks 😆

Make sure you have a period every three months, even if it is forced, to keep your uterus healthy. Look at the NICE guidelines on PCOS too as it will advise what to expect via the NHS with PCOS.

I put on 3 stone when I came off the pill to TTC so I feel your pain.

I personally would ask for your partner to be tested first as a 1/3 of fertility issues are now men (get him on the Boots Vit C and zinc tablets as they will give them a boost anyway which cant help, my hubbies improved by over a 100% in a year, they were seriously dodgy initially). I would then ask for your tubes to be checked, then clomid (there is a time limit on clomid of around 9 months so if your tubes are blocked you will be wasting the clomid).

It is extremely rare not to conceive just because of pcos. Some ladies need no assistance and conceive in the 'standard' 2 years for ladies, others need a little help, others a bit more but you will get there.

Try and keep the weight down as if your BMI is over 30 you will often be refused fertility treatment on the NHS. Cut out all white carbs and as much sugar as poss as this should help symptom wise.

Would recommend looking at fertilityfriends website as it will advise how to check your temperature to see if you are ovulating as it is the only accurate way for pcos ladies, also don't focus too much on your period as you can ovulate without one and having one doesn't mean you are ovulating either - nice and confusing - I was pretty regular but rarely ovulated! You learn a lot on the TTC route I have to say.

Good luck at the appointment, write everything down you can think of and don't feel daft asking questions (have a 2nd pair of ears too if poss as you do miss things sometimes!)
