Hello,

I recently went to the doctors because I was bleeding after intercourse and in pain. I went for a scan and it has come back with lots of cysts over both of my ovaries. I haven’t had a period for 4 years. My last scan was 18 months ago and everything was fine and clear. The doctor said it looks like I have PCOS but I dont fall into the category to have this because I dont have any symptoms such as facial hair and being overweight. She said I have basically developed this within 18 months from my last scan. She also said I have fell into the minority category and I am challenge for the medical experts.

I am on the mini pill as my mum has DVT my sisters are on the same pill but they have periods and I dont. I am waiting to for an appointment with a gynaecologist to shed some light on this situation. Im just abit confused about everything. Can anyone give some advice?

Thanks in advance :)

Eh. Not having weight gain and facial hair doesn't rule out PCOS if you have menstrual dysfunction and cysts. I'd suggest just going to see an endocrinologist privately if you can. Seems like she's trying to make it more of a challenge than it actually is to be honest.

You don't "just develop" PCOS, recent research has shown we're most likely born with it and develop symptoms as we age. Rotterdam Diagnostic Criteria just needs two out of three common factors to diagnose. A simple blood test can check for heightened androgens if she's not satisfied with menstrual dysfunction and ovary cysts-- which are already two out of the three.

Have you had a smear, if not you should request one to check all is ok especially with not having periods? they can give you medication to force a bleed and you need 4 a year to keep your uterus healthy. The pop pill doesnt always create a bleed and we all vary hugely, it may be that another pill would suit you better

Not everyone has symptoms with pcos. Cysts come and go so your GP is not very informed, as they are only a symptom, so next time you have a scan they may have gone again.

Ask to be referred to an endocrinologist as pcos is their area and not a GP.

Hello :)

I asked for a smear but I am not due for one until February so I have to wait until then.

I can only have the mini pill because my mum has DVT. Ive tried all the mini pills and the one I am on now which is called cerelle is the only one I didnt have any bother with. I didnt know you have to have 4 bleeds a year.

Ive been doing my research (even though i shouldnt be) and I think it might be endometriosis. I just feel like Im stuck in limbo with everything. Ive been referred to a gynechologist so waiting to hear from them.

Thank you for your reply :)

It's not uncommon to have both endo and pcos - endo specialises in both conditions
