My daughter hasn't had periods for at least 2/3 years and before that where irregular. Hormone blood test has come back normal. Doctor thinks she has PCOS but can this be with a normal blood test. She is 21 and upset by this.
confused!!!: My daughter hasn't had periods... - PCOS UK (Verity)
confused!!!
what blood tests did she have? Not to worry we are here to help support x
She must have 4 periods a year to keep her uterus healthy, these can be forced, or get her on the combined contraceptive pill which will force a period monthly. I would also see if you can get her a smear done as well to check their are no abnormalities as well just to be sure the lack of periods hasn't caused any issues.
Ask for a scan as well as blood tests can come back normal. What other symptoms does she have that may relate to pcos ?
Hi I'm 22 and I was diagnose at 19 I had no periods for around two years and was told my below area was perfect, it took an internal scan to show I had PCOS on both my ovaries. All my blood test came back normal. I has test for diabetes and thyroids and some others but they all came back clear and normal. if you daughter is comfortable with the idea of a internal scan I would deeply recommend asking your doctor if they haven't already offered it as it could help in a lot of ways. I also recommend if you haven't already to check with other family members to see if they have ever had the same problems. as I only just found out after Christmas that PCOS runs on my dads side of the family and my grandma struggled to have my dad and his brother.
Exactly the same as myself, 22 with PCO on both sides - no periods and unable to conceive without assisted conception. Other than that no other issues. Diagnosed by internal ultrasound.
does assisted conception really help as I am hoping to become pregnant in the next few years as I feel like my time is running out. but I feel to young and judged if I was to ask a doctor for it.
Yeah they do help, I've been having treatment for 2 years now because we never know how long it will take or how complicated it could be x
sorry to ask but have you had any children or still trying .
Oh its no problem, no I haven't had any yet but you spend quite awhile undergoing diagnosis before you start actual treatment, but I have to wait for an operation in may as my responses to the fertility treatment is just erratic. Clomid didn't work at all, then I moved on to daily injections and I don't respond for 2 - 3 weeks and then in the space of 3 days I end up with far too many follicles. so got to have an operation to try and help my response to the treatments, so I respond quicker but with less follicles hopefully! x
Thank you for replying, I may start looking into the assisted conception over the next months and see what my doctor thinks about it as I am not 100% trying but I'm also not doing anything that would stop me from becoming pregnant. I have just started taking Metformin and I want to see how my body takes to it before adding or changing medication, I myself am still fairly new to PCOS they don't teach it in school (they should) and I don't really know a lot about it and what treatments you can take unless a doctors tell me, kind of why I am on this site.
There definitely should be more awareness, that's how I also started out not trying put not preventing it at the same time, and I also tried metformin but it made me poorly unfortunately but I know a lot of people who have had really good results with metformin x
Hopefully I will be ok on it as I'm about to start a new job and I can't deal with been ill all the time, I have only just started to feel some what normal after so many years off feeling down and crap about myself because I kept been ill.
