Has anyone taken Clarithromycin antibiotic?

I have been given these and have a really dry mouth and throat. I have never taken them before as I usually have Amoxicillin. Just wondered if this was due to the antibiotics or the short course of Pred that I given or anything else.

I've had them before and they made me vomit quite quite badly and had to take something else instead. Cant remember if they gave me a dry mouth and throat though - phone your pharmacist, he should be able to help you with side effects off both of them.

yes i had them a couple of weeks ago for chest problems, they leave a horrible bitter dry taste in your mouth,

but on the positive side they done the job,and the bitter dry taste, went away as soon as i finished the dose

I have had a course of this antibiotic several times in the past two years with no problems. It is certainly more effective than amoxicillin for me. That stuff just doesn't touch any infection I have. How we react must be a personal thing, I reckon. Are the side effects you mention listed in the accompanying leaflet?

I've had it loads of times and every time I get a horrible metallic taste in my mouth (as well as dry one). Trouble is I usually have a two weeks course of them! Yuk! :-(

I've had it a few times. It always fixes any chest problems I have. (Amoxicillin NEVER seems to work). I have suffered a drier mouth but it didn't last for long. I have found them very good!

As a complete aside, my dog, a large yellow Labrador has also had Clarithromycin. It worked well for him and he didn't once complain of a dry mouth! He definitely would have told me!

Healthunlocked is really slow today!!!!

Thank you everyone. I am sticking with them. I always panic a bit when I have to take something different. If the dog is OK on them I am sure I will be.Only 3 days to go now and I am feeling a lot better.

In answer to Ayla, I didn't get a leaflet at the time of posting as the chemist only had four tablets left to give me on Friday so I could not start them until Saturday and I had to collect the rest on Monday morning. What is the world coming to. It is a good job we only live a short way away!!!!!

I read the leaflet with the next lot and the number of side effects listed are massive. If you took notice of all of them all you would be completely paranoid. Basically you could get anything!!!!!!!
