because i have a blocked tear duct, they told me that they need to cut the side of my nose open near to the corner of the eye so they can then make a new drainage point (op is called a DCR).
i have WG do i need to be worried about the general anaesthetic? and more importantly should i be worried than i am about my nose bleeding again, packs up the nostrils damn well hurt, I have had problems with nose bleeds that lasted for 6hours+ in the past.
the consultant who i saw seems very knowledgable about WG but she said it was a bit more complicated because of WG.
i am seeing the consultant i see for WG next week so will ask him but need to know if anyone has a problem like or been under a general anaesthetic?

If the WG is well controlled, there should be no problem, but I would be worried about the surgery if it is still active, as healing may be impaired. Much the same goes for the general anaesthetic. I have had surgery and a GA a couple of times in the past 2-3 years (though not on my nose) and there were no problems. But my WG has been well controlled for several years.
I had the same operation in 2010. I also have WG and my breathing is quite bad so they did the op under local anaesthetic and heavy sedation. I had the operations one month apart and it was fine. Had a black eye each time and the side of my nose was a bit sore with the stitches so I couldn't wear my glasses for a few days, but the operations have been a success and I have been fine since. It was such a relief. Good luck!
Hi I had this operation in 2009 and had a grommet put in my ear at the same time. I didn't have any problems though I was in remission at the time. I also had a black eye and bleeding wasn't much. I have had quite a lot of general anaesthetics since having WG including trachea reconstruction. They usually give iv steroids to keep inflammation down.
I had a narrow tube put in place in the nose to keep the new manmade area open. I was told not to blow my nose which was difficult because I had a lot of nasal crusting. The tube did come into view a couple of times but they took it out after 6 weeks.
Everyone is different but I haven't had any problems since. Best of luck
I've had heavy sedation and also GA. They won't do my tear duct or fix my saddle nose until it has truly settled. my nosebleeds do last that long sometimes.
