I had one to diagnose an autoimmune type rash which turned out to be lymphocytic vasculitis.
The thought of having it was far worse than having it done, although the procedure was not altogether pleasant. It was a bit like an injection at the dentist although the anaesthetic seemed far stronger. My biopsy was on the upper outer thigh and the injection only lasted a short while and I don’t remember it going that deep, certainly not to the bone.
I do remember gripping the nurse’s hand whilst the consultant administered the anaesthetic and during the procedure. They also kept me talking to distract me which helped. The anaesthetic was really effective in numbing the area and I could barely feel the procedure itself, just pressure on the area where the biopsy was taken.
Try not to worry too much about the procedure. Once they start it will be over very quickly. Make sure you follow their advice on how best to recover afterwards and give yourself some treats.
Best of luck with the procedure, your recovery and with any follow up treatment.
Thank you for your reply. I feel a bit better about it and bit more at ease.I'm just worried about infection afterwards as my immune system is a bit low. Thanks again
I had a skin biopsy on my shoulder blade and honestly didn’t feel a thing. It wasn’t as bad as the dentist! Try not to worry.
Hello, try not to worry it is not that bad, but all of us have different pain threshold’s. I had a skin punch biopsy done just below the knee times 2. They don’t go down to the bone. The anaesthetic stings but soon disappears and the procedure is done quickly.
