No restrictions on arrivals from China - We just don't learn

just reading this morning about how the UK Government has no plans to reintroduce any restrictions from people arriving from China. I just cannot believe it, yet other countries like the US and India have among others. So 3 years ago when we acted far too late, here we go again. We have very little knowledge on what transmission or vaccination rates are out there in China, or in fact what variants are out there but because they have completely relaxed their restrictions because of the incompetence they showed in managing their policy we just open our arms. Unbelievable! And it’s people like us that suffer. We never learn and if the opposition benches have any credibility they will take the Government to task. Another kick in the teeth for CEV and the NHS.

Hi May and a very merry Christmas to you. I like you am flabbergasted. We are in such a mess as a country and just fail to see any logic in doing anything. Happy New Year too by the way.

Thank you very much for your New Year good wishes, and I wish the same to you and everybody else here.Sorry for the late reply, and my general lack of participation lately. Apologies for going off topic, but the reason is looking after my terminally ill cat who we had to let go yesterday.

Partly agree though also think placing restrictions on just one country is performative, especially when those countries placing restrictions are doing nothing to stop the spread of covid within their own countries. If they really wanted to stop variants from China they’d also put in place restrictions for all countries people from China are currently allowed to travel to. If people from China can come to London and go to restaurants etc and then someone else from those restaurants can go on a plane to the US, then the whole thing makes little sense.

True Grizzley there is nothing I would want more than place restrictions worldwide and today or next Thursday the EU are meeting, but to do nothing (like last time) especially when we have “relative” control over the Covid situation at present is not a defence. What’s the point in having endless reviews, enquiries and spending millions of public finances on how we handled things and not take any notice. Especially when the won’t procure Evusheild. If we are going to allow an influx of people (a plane from Beijing to Milan had a 52% infection rate last week) that have the potential to increase infections and variants at least give us Evusheild. That’s sounds selfish, but when it comes to Covid I am, because of a lot of the non CEV people that showed absolutely no consideration for me (us) during the height of the pandemic.

I know, I share the frustration. The last “ 3 years have been relentless delayed and irrational decision making. Seems they don’t want to block travel when people are currently travelling around for Xmas/NY, even though that’s exactly why they should be acting. There’s lots of spreader events going on at the moment. Short term economic thinking dominates all decision making

Absolutely bang on Grizzly! A little story for you. Just before Christmas my wife had to hospital for some tests. During the test my wife was constantly reminding this Physician to please wear his mask. She explained about my vulnerability not just Covid but Flu, Streps etc, but he kept removing it. Eventually he said to her “I think your paranoid, there are no restrictions anymore” totally missing the point. When she sat down the woman a few seats away and within earshot quipped “we’ve got to live with it now” and that’s where we are in society among a lot of the non CEV.

Ugh I find that so frustrating. Wearing a mask isn’t paranoia it is literally following the science. We’re made to feel like the irrational ones for completely our rational behaviour, whilst being gaslighted by the irrational ones. And wearing a mask is my definition of “living with it”. Wearing a mask is exactly how I live with it.

I agree, and wear my mask for any indoor event. Interesting that hospitals are now again restricting visiting/ stopping visits and requesting mask wearing. Why did they ever stop mask wearing. Feel that the CEV have just been left to “get on with it”

Seems a sensible thing to check people coming in from China with PCR. No big deal for travellers in my opinion. With my cynical hat on the government seem to want the money that will come from their travel.

y,know Main, you took the words right out of my mouth. I am a Health and Safety Professional and I specialise with Accident Investigation within the Rail Industry. During the height of the Pandemic in the UK, I was restricted to training people from home via Teams. Last year when a load of restrictions were lifted organisations quite rightly wanted people back in a classroom. I tried to explain that didn’t work for me for obvious reasons so a number of companies looked elsewhere for slightly less expensive options which I get, I have no problem with that, but they knew the high quality training they were getting but chose an option that was £200 cheaper (about £20 per delegate). It all went Boobs Up. They are now asking to come back to me.

The point I am making is what you said about generation of money, this was led from executive level so is endemic within peoples minds. When you take away what’s happening in the Ukraine, the situation Joe Public finds itself in is that they are going to have to pay for Covid, businesses have to try and recoup what they have lost and it’s me and you that will end up paying. Nobody else.

Thanks for your support on this prunus, it’s nice to know other people share my view. I am afraid I have a propensity to “panic” on occasions which derives from experience of the wretched time CEV people have tried to come to terms with and an inactive adrenal gland after heavy steroid use. Thanks again.

totally agree It’s appalling .But then I’ve always thought this government is hell bent on’getting rid’ of the economically inactive

That means the old, disabled , chronically I’ll etc Basically anyone who doesn’t pay a lot of taxes and costs money

And don’t believe that the NHS is safe in their hands It is a challenge to whatever party is in power but the current government really plans to dismantle it and replace it with a different system ..it’s called death by 1000 cuts

Any chrinically I’ll person needs to take as much control of their care as the system really won’t short us indefibnately

That’s how I feel. Just done my chores for the day as planning a small party for tomorrow evening. Sat down turned on the TV and that Dramadoc “This England” about how we reacted to Covid, with people like Cummings and Hancock. How much is it coming back to us. Please take care. Nick
