Cough caused by preds?

Hi

I am anca negative pr3 positive and have been on a reduced dose of prednisolone I am currently taking 15mg daily which will reduce to 10mg next week for 6 weeks. In November I was admitted into hospital with breathlessness and coughing blood, this was when I was diagnosed. Since then I have had a cough which only seems to happened after taking my morning dose of prednisolone, it's phlegm producing. I have seen asthma nurse and thoracic consultant who say it's they think it's the vasculitis but they're not sure. My recent test CT lung scan was clear and my PR3 normal. Has anyone experienced a phlegm producing cough from prednisolone? All help appreciated. Thanks

Hi do you think it could be reflux that is causing you to cough. ? Are you on any blood pressure medication?

Have you discussed this with your consultant.

Hope you find the cause.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I'm not on any blood pressure medication. My consultant can't explain why I'm still coughing and puts it down to vasculitis but my last CT scan and pr3 were normal. I'm also taking anti reflux medication to combat the number of medication I'm taking including preds. It's start to get me down its comes and goes through the day.

Hi. I wasn't sure from your initial post whether you are ANCA PR3 positive or negative. Some people can test ANCA negative but have vasculitis. However if you were ANCA positive at diagnosis then I would have thought any flare or relapse occurrence would also show ANCA positive. Chris

Hi I was ANCA negative but pr3 positive at diagnosis in November 2020. I was tested again last month and was then found to be both ANCA and PR3 negative. My consultant still isn't sure if it's vasculitis. My resent CT scan was also clear. I have no idea but I am taking a lot of medication as they are treating it as vasculitis. I did have two hospital admission before 'diagnosis'. I'm at a loss...

I did Ready Teddy, but only on the higher doses, I was bringing up all sorts, blood initially but that was when my ANCA was high. It’s comforting to know your chest is clear. Best check with your specialist though if nothing more than piece of mind. Sorry I can’t help further. Nick.

It's definitely possible. I have persistant sinus issues and nasal drip, which I think in part is due to steroids. I think it's easy to go slightly mad trying to figure it out... Try and deal with the cough as a separate symptom. Vasculitis can cause symptoms anywhere and frequently won't show up on scans, not an easy one! Have you tried a humidifier and / or having no dry heating in your room
