Hi

After a recent flare/relapse my OH has just had his first dose of RTX another booked for 2 weeks time. He is on 30mgs prednisone and is due to change from AZA to another medication.

How careful are people now with keeping safe ? We are lucky as we are retired and have been previously shielding and avoiding social gatherings etc.

Just wanted to hear how others are managing the situation

Thank you and keep safe .

Hi Main1234

Sorry to hear your OH has had a flare.

Personally I'm still very much avoiding people as much as possible, I meet friends in their gardens or go for walks but I'm not going anywhere inside (except medical appointments). I've been advised to continue this where possible and feel the virus is still very much out there.

I know I too need my next rituximab soon but am for the moment delaying it unless my health starts to deteriorate.

I know there's an element of life has to go on and this virus isn't going anywhere but with those of us on these strong immune suppressants I'm personally being very cautious.

Take care

Thank you Jenny for your reply, I so agree with you.

His consultant thought it best to give the RTX now while the department was relatively quiet rather than wait for the winter ! The increase of steroids plus some new symptoms did not seem to keep it under control .

Hi Main1234. Well my remission was the same week as lockdown so like all of us it’s a double whammy! We were quite anal over lockdown, didn’t go anywhere, couldn’t get a food delivery for love nor money, my wife did the shopping once a week, but we both exercised religiously every day of the week outdoors but safely. When lockdown partly finished we kept it up and then shielding finished, I went shopping with my wife, we went for a meal, our neighbour asked us round to the garden for a barbecue. We made sure everything was done properly at all these places and I have to admit I was bricking it! However I can say now over time it’s done my mental health the world of good! My next challenge is my wife is due back at work Monday to a large customer related business and her employer won’t let her arrive and leave 30 min early to avoid everybody else! That worries me more.

.

Thank you for your reply, it’s difficult to know what to do for the best and we are lucky as don’t have to go to work. I bet your wife is concerned about returning and keeping you safe.

I guess we will just carry on being safe and avoiding lots of people in small spaces.
