Yes I have had this done. You will need to rest with foot up for a couple of weeks - I tried to do too much too soon and ended up with an infected wound which cleared with antibiotics. Long term - the nerves around the sural nerve regenerate and do its job so after about a year I got full feeling back in the foot.

Did it affect your ability to walk in the months afterwards?

Hiya,

There's another post here that has a lot of detail through the replies... Hoping the link works, but if not search 'nerve biopsy how bad can it be'

Hope all goes well. X

I had it done around 3 years ago as a day case at HOspital for Neurology. Litle or no pain on the day and only numbness at the top of the foot not little toe. I can’t remember any difficulties in the following days. I still have that numbness but apart from feeling odd it isn’t a problem. The good thing about it was that it confirmed a Vasculitis diagnosis which had not shown up on skin biopsies. This led to treatment first Cyclophosphamide ( not successful) and then RItuximab ( quietly slowly led to a 10-15% improvement which makes a big difference to my living. So it is definitely a good thing to do IMHO to have clarity about diagnosis. GOOD LUCK!!
