Vaccinations and Vasculitis.... Has anyone had a MMR that caused a flare up?

I started a new job in February that required me to get a MMR vaccination series of two shots a month apart. Before the second shot I got a rash on my legs and one on my back that itched terribly. Then severe fatigue and achey stiff joints back pain and then neuropathy in my feet. I feel it was all brought on by the MMR shot but I can't get any doctor or nurse to listen to my concerns about this. Has anyone had this or know of any article or research on vasculitis and vaccinations?

I think there have been papers written about some vaccines being the trigger for the onset of Vasculitis in some people with a predisposition to having an autoimmune disease but I cannot find anything written about vaccines causing a flare or relapse in a patient with a preexsisting autoimmune disease. Have you tried talking to your consultant who you see for the Vasculitis?

I only have a GP at the moment that I see, she is still not fully convinced of the vasculitis diagnosis. She is still running tests, a lot of them. My biggest problem has been the neuropathy, keeping me from work and being on my feet. But the last week I have been so sore and achey. My midsection feels as though someone has squeezed me real tight and I can barely move. I have mentioned to her I think this was all brought on by the MMR vaccination but she doesn't think so. It just seems too much of a coincidence to me.

I agree with Suzym2u, you should contact your vasculitis consultant. When I was diagnosed, I was advised not to have any live vaccines. I found this in the University of Oxford Vaccine Project in the MMR Vaccine Key Facts section :

"Who should not have the vaccine?

The MMR vaccine should not be given to people who are clinically immunosuppressed (either due to drug treatment or underlying illness). This is because the weakened viruses in the vaccine could replicate too much and cause serious infection. This includes babies whose mothers have had immunosuppressive treatment while they were pregnant or breastfeeding. For more information see the MHRA's Drug Safety Update (April 2016) ."

This makes it worse and makes me more stiff and achey. I am so depressed and in so much pain. I am calling the doctor tomorrow and I just hate to keep complaining :(.

Suiterdd, I don't know where you are. In the uk? If so, I think you should contact the Vasculitis UK Help Line to ask for a vasculitis consultant. Suzym2u is a moderator, I am sure she would give you the link to contact the help line. I am sure it would be sensible to seek specialist advice.

I actually live in the states in Ohio. I think there is a specialist on vasculitis in Cleveland but it is about 4 hours from here. I would be interested in any help I could get near me though.

MMR is a mixture of live attenuated virus - and as such poses a risk to anyone with a compromised immune system or on immunosuppressant therapy.

I'm rather concerned that healthcare professionals aren't aware of that.

I think though that it is far more likely you had measles or rubells rather than the vasculitis having flared - though that is also possible. The timing of the rash would be about right for it having caused one of the vaccine viruses to take hold: measles is about 10-18 days, rubella 12-23 days.
