Hi my husband is in drug reduced remission. Diagnosed with GPA in August 17 usual treatment given, now on 7.5 msg prednisolone and aza . Prednisolone reducing to 5 mgs soon. All blood tests ok and lungs fine. Long may it continue.
Am I correct in thinking that there should be no more damage now? He has a continual runny nose, clear fluid and occasional cough. He also has watery eyes but feels well in himself.
Thank you.

Some of the initial damage may not repair, but whilst in remission vasculitis will not be damaging anything. Having said that, some delicate areas such as kidneys (if they were involved) can deteriorate some more for 2 reasons. Firstly, once the vasculitis has stopped damaging the kidney, scar tissue is created as the body heals. This scar tissue in delicate areas change cause it's own damage. Secondly, once kidneys have been damaged, a "vicious circle" begins where the kidney can deteriorate even when in remission. For example high blood pressure damages kidneys and damaged kidneys cause high blood pressure.
Hi, agree with gilders, however looks like your husband's vasculitis is confined to his respiratory tract and indeed test results confirm remission with no further damage to other susceptible organs. That in itself is great news and any further problems will likely be down to wear and tear with natural ageing. Can't legislate for further chest infections which may well occur as he would be susceptible. Hopefully though he will continue to do well. Best wishes.
