Gout?

Has anyone here suffered, or does suffer, with gout? I only ask because apparently it's what I have. Yes I was Surprised too, by the way, I NOW know that it IS a, well known (so I'm told) 'Side Effect' of Kidney Problems.

My, VERY knowledgeable, Consultant Dr Andi-a man that I, very honestly, nominated for an award-told me during a Consultation. He has 'Upped' my Steroids, to 20 mg, for four days and given me a drug, to take, AFTER I have reduced my Steroids to Normal.

So far my Pain has reduced considerably, I haven't had to take 'Endless' pain killers, and I'm not walking with, so much of, a limp.

I know that this has been 'All about me', sorry about (another 'About'?) that. I am simply using my experience as an example and NOT trying to 'Blow My Own Trumpet'.

I would be interested to hear of Anyone else's experience, with either, Gout or similar 'things'.

I am also aware that I 'Plugged' Dr Andi which, I assure you, I did on purpose!

Warmest Wishes, Too Early for Merry Christmas?

Hi Andrew, Merry Xmas to you too. I'm glad your consultant sorted you out with pain relief. What area is your consultant in as I would be interested to see him.

Dear Suzy,

My Consultant, Dr Andi, is based at The Ipswich Hospital. He is 'Just', and that IS the wrong word, a Renal Consultant who 'Took me on' after I was Referred back, from Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge-where I had a Kidney transplant, in July 2013.

I'm still under Dr David Jane's Team, at Addenbrooke's, for annual Check Ups.

I WOULD, very highly recommend BOTH these Consultants, in point of fact.

Once again Merry Christmas Suzy and Love, to all your family.

Kindest wishes

Hi Andrew, thank you for your reply. I am still struggling to get diagnosed. I have heard Addenbrookes is the best place to be. I wish you well and once again, thank you for your reply.

Best wishes Suzy

I had 'gout' eventually diagnosed as pseudo-gout, caused by too much calcium.

I had been prescribed, automatically, Calichew when first put on pred. Yes, no-0ne had checked my calcium levels and guess what............they were the cause.

Might be an idea!!

I have high uric acid level and occasional gout. I too have been helped by colchizine. I have a poor kidney function (25%) due to GPA and also a family history of gout. I have a lot of pain in my hips which is caused by a mixture of arthritis, bursitis and maybe gout. My rheumatologist is currently investigating whether or not to try to to bring my uric acid level down - but apparently the treatment to achieve this would necessitate me reducing my daily intake of azapriothine. Obviously there are risks with this and the decision needs input from my renal consultant - so we will wait and see! Hope your situation is less complicated!
