Tooth implant

Hi all. Wondered if anyone has had a tooth implant. I have Wegeners (GPA). I need a tooth extraction and considering an implant I just wondered if anyone knew if there were risk factors for someone with vasculitis.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Hi ludo - I've no answers for you I'm afraid but I too would like to know ! I'm considering 2 implants but you'll know it's big money !

I've other health problems to consider as well.

Hopefully we'll hear from someone out there😊

Thanks Susan-Mac we wait in anticipation! Let's hope someone out there can enlighten us to any risks.

I was told not to. But I had a bad episode of delayed wound healing after the tooth was extracted. Took ages despite antibiotics. I was glad when the gap finally closed and won't touch it again, I swear.

My dentist explained that a) the immune system may not like the implant and react with a flare up, and b) the outer layer (epidermis) of the gum tissue is thinner and more vulnerable due to me being treated with MTX which may increase the risk of infections.

I'm not sure of the "dangers" I had an implant about two weeks before I was diagnosed.....I had no problem. I'd been sick for yrs but no one could give me a diagnosis. I'll tell you now.....if you aren't already aware, this disease is killer on teeth. I've read so many stories of tooth loss. I've been diligent all my life but now, it takes extra effort but, I've also been blessed with kidney involvement with this wonderful little disease, and was on dialysis for 4 months...still dealing with that issue but no dialysis......I'd do my research, is my only advice and find a knowledgable dentist (exp in this disease). I'm Vasculitis MPA.

my boyfriend Robert lost all his teeth, he has sinus gpa; he has been thinking about the implants, but his mouth is inflamed most of the time, so my common sense said no!!

maybe later on when the decease is under control since he just started RIX treatment.

Hi. I just noticed this post. MPA 2010---- I just had my 2nd tooth extraction(back molars) for an implant. My dentist put the metal peg in at the same time. He will wait til the area is calmed doe(a few months) before making the implant tooth. For both extractions I felt like I had a flare for a week or 2. Sore muscles, joints, headache, mouth and tongue pain. With my body, it seems if I have a small problem, it becomes a whole body reaction(tho my lab work is fine). Good luck Cheryl

Thanks Cheryl I'm still debating on this. It would be interesting to know how you get on. My tooth is broken beyond repair but the dentist said it won't cause me any trouble so I have time to decide. It's so expensive too so I need to be sure an implant is the right way to go. Trouble is several of my teeth are at risk of the same thing happening.

Like others I've had problem with my teeth especially just before diagnosis when I was also getting significant sinus pain. I'm sure I had several unnecessary fillings. I think the pain was related to the Vasculitis. Often the dentist couldn't find the source.

Anyway good luck I hope your implants go well. I would be interested to know how you get on. Best wishes.
