I just passed my 2 year milestone but have been having repeated UTI’s which one landed me in the hospital for 6 days. 16 days on antibiotics! I’ve been trying to get my Covid-19 shot but am always on antibiotics. Frustrating! Anyone else have issues with UTI’s?

Hi Dara, I’ve had a kidney and pancreas transplant years back and a recent kidney transplant. A huge number of UTIs is caused by e-coli bacteria that is directly coming from poultry. Factory farms grow poultry in horrible conditions where all animals are tortured and murdered. Their bodies are always covered in poop and when they are sent to slaughter, animal blood is mixed with fecal masses. Then they get packaged and sent to stores. If your household consumes poultry, you and your family are exposed to e-coli bacteria and the most vulnerable get affected. Being immunosuppressed and having your kidney in the abdomen close to bladder you are more affected. I went vegan 16 years ago and it helped with recurrent UTIs. Besides, I was put on Nitrofurantoin Macro antibiotic to premeditate and post Medicare for sexual intercourse. If you go totally plant based with no SOS, salt oil sugar, you will change your life for the best and will not support brutal animal agriculture. I’d suggest you read The China Study by T Collin Campbell. Also watch the most recent documentary called Milk: Make your own mind up. Whole food plant based diet is not just the way to survive pandemics caused by animal agriculture, but changing your for the best. 🌱🌱🌱👍.

I went plant based for two years before my transplant. I occasionally eat chicken wings. Thanks for the info.. I’m more of a fish person. I have no problem giving up chicken...will definitely give up chicken and see if that improves my condition! I feel better already! Thank so much!

You don't have to give up chicken. If chicken is cooked properly it will kill any bacteria on it. A lot of UTIS come from e coli in stool. A trace of feces can get into the bladder easily due to close distance. That's what the doctors have said causes most utis. Best of luck!

But multiple research indicate that poultry is as high in saturated fat as beef. Plus animal protein overall causes cancer, heart disease, cognitive disability, etc and etc. 90% of all meat in US is raised on tons of antibiotics. Scientists predict the end of medicine in 20-30 years due to world population developing resistance to all antibiotics resulting in inability to treat all bacterial infections. plant based is the only way to go. Besides, doctors get only 1 hour on nutrition in medical school.... I would not rely on a doctor. Good luck to you.

I have too! I have done everything I can think of to prevent them but keep getting them. I will be 2 years on May 16th for my kidney transplant.

Hello Dara,I have noticed that drinking lots of liquids, i.e. at least 2 and a half litres a day, consisting of 2 cups of coffee, juice and also one cup of Peppermint-tea and/or a cup of Chamomile-tea does help me.

Every transplant clinic has similar protocol for intake of 2,5-3 liters of WATER per day. Caffeinated liquids increase chances for UTI due to risk of dehydration when consuming caffeine. All the transplant physicians emphasized importance of drinking that amount of WATER, just water besides other fluids. I went through 6 transplant centers for placement on the waiting list and then that large amount of water intake was mentioned by every physician. One of them stated that after consuming a cup of coffee, one has to take 2 cups of water to compensate for loss of body fluids and reduce risk of dehydration as it can gradually effect kidney.

Hello SLP2005Many thanks for your thoughts and what you write is very interesting and I have never ever heard anything about it before, especially not from "my" transplant centre, who always examine my latest blood-tests results, about which I have never been questioned ... Perhaps it does depend on the person/patient and the quality of coffee they are enjoying? For example, my husband and I have been vegetarians for decades and adding to that, we always cook everything from scratch with fresh food etc. every day. I also look after myself and keep myself as fit as is possible under the circumstances of being in chronic constant pain and therefore "parked" miserably on the sofa since "my" kidney-transplant.

Many thanks again for your kind thoughts and kind wishes from SalSi

I agree on that, SalSi that we are all different. I just provided the facts from what I learned. It’s great to know that people are switching to healthier diets. Myself: vegan or on whole food plant based SOS diet for 16 years with a long hx of only water fasting and for the last several months implementing IF having one meal a day. Maybe not for others, but IF shows great results based on my labs. Thank you for your response! Much love and health to you and everybody! 🌱🤗👍

After my transplant I was told to drink as much as my thirst normally required, with no special efforts to increase hydration.

Hi DaraI used to have the same issue. The worst bout also put me in hospital for a week and an horrendous course of antibiotics which knocked me for six for a month.

After this episode they ran some tests which showed my bladder was emptying perfectly so the conclusion they came to, was the infections were caused by my own kidneys. I’ve been on a single dose antibiotic for over 15 years now. It stops nearly all infections from taking hold 🤞🤞
